Funny, I don't think we have a thread for this.

I guess the marina-opposers must be very worried about all those boats in the harbour today that are about to travel through the harbour airport area.

Looks like it won't be a "driftsure", but it might not be very pleasant either.

5 knot wind gusts today, it's shaping up to be another spectacular driftsure!

Looks like it's taken about 11 hours for the first few boats to get to Swiftsure Bank.

[whisper]I know it's sacrilegious to mention such a thing...but is it possible, er, that while Swiftsure sounds great, in reality it's a real sucky sporting event?[/whisper]

This years race is May 25-27th, and is hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.

That harbour view sure would be nice if all of those @$%#$* boats weren't blocking it.

(And if all of those @$%#$* buildings weren't there in the background.)

Another "driftsure" with 1/3 of the boats pulling out.

Nice photo of "Surt," Bingo. We had the chance to hang out on the deck Friday afternoon courtesy of Sparky. Wonderful boat inside and out.

Know it all.

No this is not a Swiftsure story, but the vessel would have encountered similar conditions that a fully crewed racing yacht would encounter.

The other thing to note is that the Socrates' skipper left it to late in the season to start a voyage from Victoria.

Jeanne Socrates, the 74-year-old woman trying to set a record as the oldest person to sail alone around the world, has met a setback.

Storm damage to Socrates’ sailboat, Nereida, has forced her to turn back to complete repairs in Victoria. She is expected back on Sunday or Monday.
