You know, the old house next to the empty lot..Built in 1890, now is almost in ruins... :(

Here is a picture or two before the inevitable....

This one is on the heritage list. Built in 1890. Those speakers on the roof seem to have been there for years!

That is too bad though the building itself looks as though it is in pretty good shape if it were lifted on tho a new foundation.

Here is a little more on it:

It appears it is part of a consolidated property for sale? Look:

Description

Exceptional opportunity to purchase a downtown development property.

R-K Medium density attached dwelling district

There are many beautifully restored houses like it but few that are all original, even if it's falling apart.

P.S.: Google claims someone at that address sells novelty golf balls, but I won't link it here. :o

Seems that Greg Hunter owns the land or is hired to subdivide it. Anyone know who owns this house? Where do you find information about demolition. And if this is a protected heritage house why is it so easy to demolish? I've sent an email to the planner Kevin King..wonder what he'll say...if anything :(

It is funny, the link that Holden posts shows it as a 1912. But this is surely one of those examples of houses that is not actually built in 1912 rather that was the date that CityHall updated all houses on the regsitry and many that were not already noted were given the 1912 date despite being much older. Often when people live in a heritage house you aske them what year and they will say 1912 but only about half of those were actually 1912 many were much older.

Just started up a facebook page:
""Do you remember what used to be on that empty lot or on that block where faceless apartments now stand? Probably not. This is a facebook group for all of those that love the old Heritage Houses of Victoria and want to remember them as they were..old souls, stately and magnificent. A memory of days gone by... "

The last time I spoke to a guy who lives there, the plan was to move it somewhere else to make way for condos when someone buys the lot.

The last time I spoke to a guy who lives there, the plan was to move it somewhere else to make way for condos when someone buys the lot.

This appears to be happening:

Moving and rehabilitating a heritage house will make way for a four-storey condominium/townhouse project between Burdett Avenue and McClure Street, near Vancouver Street.

The project by Mountain West Properties was unanimously approved by Victoria council Thursday.

It involves properties at 1003-1017 Burdett Ave. and 1016-1018 McClure St. and will see a tired, heritage-designated house at 1011 Burdett moved across the lot about 50 metres to 1016-1018 McClure St. — near a cluster of other single-family homes — where it will be rehabilitated for sale. Moving the house, built in 1912, makes way for four, two-storey townhouse units and a four-storey condominium building fronting Burdett Avenue. An existing vacant six-unit apartment on the property will be demolished.

Looks like a nice building and seems to compliment the area.. took some pics as i walked past the other day.. also looks like something happening on the next lot over?.. any thoughts on either of these?

I'll have to stop by the sales center.  I always see their sandwich board on Cook but I've been too lazy to stop by.  This is wood-frame above grade I assume?

Are they using the relocated rebuilt house as the sales center?  It's nice it was restored.
