After I found a rendering of the development at 408 Dallas Road on Chow Low Hammond Architects' site, I found these images for a new Victoria Chinatown Care Centre.
full link = http://clha.ca/proje...own-care-centre

This location looks to be at the site of the existing VCCC, 555 Herald, and the lot where VCM Auto Group is now.

(I searched the threads for this project but didn't find one.)

VIHA's site describes the existing VCCC as a residential care facility opened in 1982 with 31 units.
I poked around VIHA's site but didn't see anything about this replacement.

Anybody know more about what stage this project is at?

Not a bad building but not a great location for a care home. I'd much rather see something that added vibrancy.

At least we'd see that car lot gone.

Well done on the big find!

I'd be happy if it looked something similar to the CRD building.

Not digging that open corner. Would the south face be a blank wall? Most likely, you think?

If I am not mistaken this rendering shows a building of around 7 stories. I would guess that is at least 21 metres. I expect to be long cold in my grave before a structure of this height gets approved for Chinatown.

I saw this a few weeks ago and just assumed this was a long ago shelved project. I guess I could be wrong. I would be okay with it. I would prefer the idea of care homes being in the city than tucked away in the burbs. Plus this would in essence be an extension of the current one or improvement on it.

Not sure that VIHA would be involved though except for licensing, the current one is run by a non-profit.

It has a whole new look!

Excavation underway at the car lot. I have no idea what's the status of this project; there's nothing on Development Tracker I can see. Mystery.

The tiny little parking lot?

Know it all.

Just the parking lot, the car display building still stands. Maybe just soil remediation?
