The team behind the former Fort Street Cafe (below the hobby shop on Fort Street) and PicNic are teaming up with the Superior's former chef and opening Northern Quarter, a restaurant that will also act as a music venue, at 1724 Douglas Street in the former Silver Threads space immediately across from The Hudson.

The targeted opening date is May, 2015.

Good for them but in a way I'm disappointed because that building is at the end of its natural life and the site is prime for redevelopment worthy of its location.

COMING IN MAY 2015... NORTHERN QUARTER

Benji Duke of the Fort Street Cafe and Torin Egan of the Superior Cafe have teamed up to bring you a community inspired restaurant venue that tastes as good as it sounds.

A modern interpretation of a public house, Northern Quarter will offer local, seasonal cuisine, selected bar menu and inspired live performance. You can expect refreshing happy hours, a relaxed dining experience and well presented late night entertainment.

Due to the limited number of words starting with "Qu", I am going to assume this is going to be a retail location called "Northern Quilts".  This is across from the Victoria Public Market on Douglas between Fisgard and Herald, right next to Money Mart.

I think there used to be some type of seniors club here before.  Often those doors were slightly ajar and you could hear ping pong being played in there.

That's an amazing job considering it was by hand.

Your best picture yet!

Poked me head in here last night and it looks really great. Seemed fairly busy too. Nice that they have music as well. I hope it does well. It certainly adds to this end of town.

It has a whole new look!

The stage looked fairly decent too.

Long gap in comments here.

Anyone been recently?

I wonder if management here will notice that with Veneto closed, the 5pm opening time at NQ is missing out on the drink after work crowd from nearby government offices.

City Hall, CRD, Min of Finance at Herald...

I think Veneto opened at 5PM, no? I think recently they were open at 4PM but generally not.

I’ll confirm.

Ya, 5pm is a difficult opening time, but it might be that their staff have day jobs, so earlier might be problematic.

I was there Wednesday night. I think they are mostly geared around people coming for dinner, then staying for the show, or pub quiz, or whatever.

I go there every month or two - really enjoy the place. A well curated rotating beer list, great cocktails and a small but well done menu.

As Victoria continues to grow, I hope we get more places like this.

I work at City Hall. Get off work at 4:30 and was able to walk right into Veneto.

Oh, and thanks for chiming in!
