The Quadra Street Thrifty's store has been granted a license to sell alcohol. It's the first grocery store in the region to have this license, I believe. There are no immediate plans for the start of sales but it will likely start this year.

That's where Cook and Cloverdale meet up, and Thrifty's is on the Cook side. But yeah, that's the one. This is a great step in the right direction.

Don't they have to sell just bc wine too?
Looks like they could sell other types of booze too...

Changes to B.C. liquor laws went into effect last April that meant grocery stores could offer up wine and beer, but it must be sold by designated cashiers who are trained in Serving It Right.'"

Great, being an alcoholic can be so time consuming in itself

Will the store have certain hours for selling booze or will it be open all night like they are for groceries?
I would think you would need a separate till for booze only, and tills for groceries only.

Haven't you got the hint yet nobody cares about regulations in this town.

You're thinking of Victoria. This store is over the border in Saanich where the cops have zero tolerance for alcohol. Heck, even the mayor gets two breathalyzers for driving dead sober.

Yeah, I don't understand that particular one. It's a good one, in a good location, I used to live right by it. Next closest grocery is at least 5 minutes drive away, I think, maybe No Frills slightly closer than that.

Is it closing, or is Sobey's rebranding that location?

That's the only grocery store in the region that meets the 1km rule right? You have to be 1km from a current liquor store to qualify.
So how is it that Thriftys can have a liquor outlet at Tuscany Village as well as at University Heights, as that's not one km apart? Will they close one of them?
