Café Layla is a licensed restaurant founded by long-time restaurateur Kent Jomha along with his daughter Brittni and son-in-law Chris, and features authentic, home-style Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine in a contemporary yet inviting setting.

Kent’s close family ties to Lebanon (his father having grown up in a small town called Layla, the restaurant’s namesake) meant he grew up eating authentic, home-cooked Lebanese food. Throughout his travels, he also became passionate about Mediterranean food, which led to his first restaurant “Hummus Brothers” in his then-home, Prince George. He has since moved to Victoria to put down roots, joined by Brittni and Chris, for their next labour of love, Café Layla.

Please come join us. You’ll feel right at home!

Cafe Layla is for sale.

So that's 2 defunct restaurant spaces in the same block (North 48 being the other).

Cafe Layla is in the space where the Persian place used to be, so I'm gonna guess no.  :P

Finally went to Cafe Layla a couple of weeks ago and it was so delicious. Got the chicken shawarma wrap. Blows Superbaba out of the water.

I clearly don't get to this part of town very often. I thought Layla was in a separate space directly north of the (former) Persian Place, but I guess they are in fact the same physical space.

This may have been covered elsewhere, but Café Layla closed unceremoniously late last year.  They were another casualty of not figuring out that in a virtually invisible location, you need to rely on the public servant and tech crowd to pay your bills.  And that crowd in particular is cheap, so a $15.95 lamb souvlaki wrap just isn't going to cut it.  You need a lunch special where's your out the door for under $12 - like Koto.

I can't figure out how to upload photos and I'm afraid I can't be bothered to upload them to a photo hosting site and linking them; but I took a photo of the new sign that just went up overnight for "Fire Bowl" which appears to be some kind of Asian restaurant.  If they can do rice and noodle bowls for around the $10 mark and base their model on volume, they will do just fine.

Takes a couple steps, but here's how to upload a photo from your computer without an external host

Thanks for this.  Mine doesn't show a button for "Attach Photos & More Reply Options."  It just says "More Reply Options."  Although when I click on that button it does show me the attach file buttons.  It also doesn't have anywhere near that functionality for me on the mobile version, which is what I would be using to upload the photo.  Strange.

Absolutely. There's a lot of successful, inexpensive places downtown that compete hard for lunch. $11-12 for a Tacofino burrito or $8 for a sandwich from Italian Food Imports are the reason there's a lineup out the door at these places. Reasonably priced and good quality foods bring people back.

The bento box from Koto in the 500 blk of Fort Street gives you amazing value for money and it's decent.  I stopped in at the new Japanese place across the street from Café Layla/Fire Bowl and all of their lunch specials ranged from $15-17.  Sorry, wrong town for that and you can't rely on tourists because it is relatively tucked away.

Here we go. I guess I can use the full version of the site, which kinds defears the purpose. Might just be a limit in the functionality of the mobile page. Anyway, without further ado:46C20F5F-892C-4F5C-83D2-7288C3C761F0.jpeg

EDIT: Sorry that it’s sideways. Not sure what to do to fix that.

Finally! I love hot pot, and we need more options in DT Vic. The "Engrish" just has me more intrigued and ready to try.
