The two lads now declared missing in Northern B.C. were both from Port Alberni (close enough to Victoria to warrant notice in this thread).

Their truck was found burning just south of Dease Lake, which doesn't really point in a positive direction for the two lads. As well, a body was discovered a couple of kilometres away from the burning truck ... but the body was neither of the two missing teens.

All of this just days after the confirmed murder of the male and female couple just a few hundred clicks away from the burning truck.

That's potentially five dead people whose end was met with violence in the course of just a few days, all met their end near or on a roadway, and all within about 4 hours drive of each other (which is essentially a local drive in that neck of the woods).

Something very bad seems to be going on in the northern reaches of the province.

yes it’s quite troubling. the two travellers from australia and the us were reportedly very badly shot. ie. shot in the head or more.

Bizarrely, when police took to a press conference to ask the public for their help they had a cat filter on during their live stream, meaning the officer outlining the deaths of the two young people had an anime-style little kitty whiskers and ears. Police quickly realized their mistake, pulled the video and uploaded one not run through a cat filter.

^Good Lord. SNL actually did a skit on this premise a few months ago with Adam Sandler playing a Libyan warlord in the midst of battle being interviewed and mesmerized the the malfunctioning SnapChat cartoon filter.

What legitimate reason is there for officers of the law to even have Snapchat on their mobile devices?

It's the latest gag going 'round the internets and believe me, it's pretty darned difficult to "accidentally" turn on such a filter then "not realize" it's on :)

And now two men from Surrey listed as missing after their Jeep was found near Logan Lake. One of the men is my classmate's husband. via https://www.cbc.ca/n...ssing-1.5220048

Logan Lake is ~1,500 KM Southeast of Dease Lake (an 18 hour drive) and the areas in Northern BC where the rest of these incidents have occurred. I’m less inclined to believe the missing guys from Surrey have any correlation with the rest.

although police don't say if either man was driving or who the brand new jeep belongs to.

so rcmp have released sketches of a person of interest seeing talking to the couple.

https://globalnews.c...teens-dead-man/

and one of the dead guy they found. which is a bit odd when they could just release an actual photo of the dead guy. I guess that might be a bit morbid.

It was Facebook Live, not Snapchat.

But to answer your question, Snapchat is used in many police investigations these days. Social media monitoring is also a very real thing that police do.

New York Post:

A suspect wanted for the murder of an elderly Texas man crossed into Canada only weeks before a young couple was found murdered there — and a police official said that “multiple sources” have spoken of a potential link, according to a new report.

Derek Whisenand, 27, crossed into Canada sometime during the week of June 24, 7 News Australia reported.

About three weeks later, Chynna Deese, 24, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her beau, Lucas Robertson Fowler, 23, of Sydney, Australia, were shot dead on the side of a remote highway in British Columbia, 12 miles south of Lilard Hot Springs, a popular tourist destination.

^ And a breaking news update: the two missing Vancouver Island boys have now been named as suspects in the three homicides.

^That makes no sense. So the crazy Texan on the loose is not connected to these deaths?

The Texan connection was made by media outlets, AFAIK.

The theory that the RCMP are exploring does make some sense, as you've got a torched vehicle with missing occupants just down the road from a deceased male found in a roadside stop, but without a vehicle. How that connects to the other two homicides is less clear.
