Idea of rental housing in Carnarvon Park draws backlash

As part of an updated master plan for Carnarvon Park, Oak Bay is proposing the idea of an indoor pickleball court topped with 24 rental units

I agree there should be no, or limited housing in a park that has organized and team sports.  You are just asking for conflict.  And invariably, you will end up restricting park use (the easy way out), rather then telling tenants to suck it up, if noise/use becomes an issue.   Parks should be free and open to use all daylight hours (plus nights where they have lights).

Council voted unanimously to shut down the notion of housing. Why was time and money spent on that proposal in the first place?

Now it’s time for Oak Bay to open up a discussion about if and how they plan to meet the housing target set for them.

And it might be quite reasonable for them to conclude they cannot meet the target.

They might also look at Oak Bay Marina and Oak Bay Lodge land though.

They can also look at some strategic house-buying. Proactive even. Hire some real estate professionals on a commission basis to see where they can arrange some assemblies at the end of blocks. Nobody in Oak Bay is getting any younger, houses certainly turn.

They have not taken my advice to buy the Currie property yet.

Or wait for the next provincial and federal elections to happen and see if mandated housing "targets" are still a thing.

That could be part of the plan, yes.
