Last year there was mention of a pending proposal to replace the 1950's office building on Cook between Johnson and Pandora with new office and retail/commercial space.

Have there been any recent developments concerning this proposal?

Was it the building too? I thought it was just the parking lot, I could be wrong though. I remember something about a variance, either less parking or a setback, I can't remember which...

It may have been just the parking lot at Cook and Johnson. I can't remember now.

Isn't the old Volvo lot [url=http://www.vibrantvictoria.ca/resources/mcp/0037.htm:d1b61]this[/url:d1b61] project?

I think the office proposal mentioned some time ago was for the lot east of the Volvo properties where that blue ~six-storey office building currently stands (with that huge surface parking lot).

Am I mistaken and the proposal was for the west side of Cook? Now I'm completely confused.

^You are right, east side of Cook at Johnson, there was a small blurb in the paper about it some time ago, no rezoning, just some sort of variance.

(Copyright Times Colonist (Victoria) 2006)

An Edmonton developer is musing about building a medical office building on two parking lots at the corner of Cook and Johnson streets.

Dean Strongitharm, senior associate with CitySpaces Consulting, said his client has owned the parking lots adjacent to the Medical Arts Building for about 25 years. Parking convenants removed this week by Victoria council were put in place in connection with other projects that didn't go ahead because of economic issues of the time, he said.

Stongitharm said Diamond Developments hasn't made precise plans, but with the increasing number of residents in the Harris Green area, plans for a large pharmacy or other medical office may be viable. He said it would likely be several years before plans are put into place.

Oh that lot. Fernwood won't let anything bigger than Hank's pot plant to be built there.

Isn't that just for the current building? 8500 sqft is tiny.

What current building, though? Isn't there nothing there except a parking lot? (And I agree -- the whole lot (visible partially in the photo) is way bigger than 8500 sq.ft., so it must be just a portion?? <confused>

Perhaps it will be an office/medical building with only 8,500 sq ft of retail available on the ground floor? Call David at 475-3700 for details I guess.

I was referring to the current medical building on the site. No one is going to build a brand new office building and limit office sizes to 8500 sqft. That would knock out all your best customers.

The signs says "up to 8500 square feet of retail space."

I'd read that to mean retail space in the base of a new office/professional building.
