Interesting. This must be one of the first SEA markets they've exited after building it up.

Kilo95, I'm on the AM Horizon flight on Sunday - so if you're on the morning DL flight, I'll see you at the airport and in customs at SEA as they leave within 5 minutes of each other :)

Ah, too bad I'm on the afternoon flight! I've historically been an Alaska loyalist but thought it would be cool to try out Delta and fly in a regional jet to SEA as opposed to the usual prop planes.

Can't imagine the difference is more than a minute or two on the quick trip down to SEA!

DL actually schedules their morning flight for longer than AS:

DL 5:45am - 6:48am

AS 5:50am - 6:35am

Of course, it's all scheduled padding in order to help DL appear to provide a more reliable operation. It's harder to be late when you build in that much of a buffer! Having said that, the DL flight operated 8 and a half hours late today. It was in the air for 32 minutes. The AS flight was only in the air for 26 minutes.

Till YYJ publishes 2018 total passenger numbers, YLW ( kelowna ) has gone out publicly, with a set of brass ..... has declared themselves 10th over all in Canada after bumping YYJ ( Victoria ) from that spot. So I guess that means we are now in 11th place behind YLW

Our airport really needs to try and actually advertise the airport and people would actually use it then...

Runway extension....no direct flights to Hawaii or Vegas...we did both those non-stops in the past and loved it. Would pay a premium to save the stopover in YVR.

Does WestJet no longer offer a direct flight to Vegas from YYJ? I took one a few years back. It was very convenient.

I know, we used the direct a few times in the past but havent found anything in some time. Heres the very small list of destinations and the seasonal non-stops are marked by * http://www.victoriaa...op-destinations

Ended a few years ago, along with HNL and PHX - Who's next to axe a route because of the ferry drain or thought you can save by skipping YYJ.

The final tally for 2018 is in. As I've said here before, there's no contest between YLW and YYJ in December, so no surprise that YLW has eked out a victory here despite YYJ going into December with the passenger traffic lead.

YLW: 2,080,372

YYJ: 2,048,627

We're number 11! We're number 11!

It's interesting how YYJ celebrated its two millionth passenger arrival on the 19th, and YLW on the 20th, yet YLW ended the month with over 40,000 more passengers with a total just a hair under 211,000 for the month. The busiest month, ever, for YYJ was 214k in August of 2018. At this rate it won't be long before YYJ is firmly in #11th spot.

Another interesting point is per local resident, YLW serves 11 passengers. Per local south Island resident, YYJ serves 5.5.

Okanagan airport overtakes Victoria International as Canada's 10th busiest, despite Victoria's record-breaking year

I think that the other main issue is that most of the traffic out of YYJ is vacation travel. Vacationers are more likely to seek a lower price by departing elsewhere and are more tolerant of travel taking extra time.

Cheapskate vacationers maybe. I'd rather pay a little more and get to my destination faster.

Do we know most of the traffic is vacation travel, i.e. fun times in the sun?

All of these airlines operate out of YYJ, though, except CMA. Instead of CMA, we have Island Express & Delta, so we're actually head by that metric.

Destination-wise we're about the same. AC & Pasco operate to a few more places out of YYJ, WS a few more out of YLW. Island Express operates to something like 4 destinations out of YYJ vs. CMA's 1. The charters are about even, too. It's a pretty even comparison overall.
