I’ve only ever done about two hours with a mask in an attic. It wasn’t fun. I can do a half an hour no problem.

YYJ released their March passenger statistics. 81,105 through the airport in March 2020 against 163,795 in March 2019. Considering that the first half of the month was essentially business as usual and the airport was still down 50%, what are we thinking for April...down 95%?

 

For comparison, YLW was at 104,948 in March 2020, down from 193,715 in March 2019.

YYJ released their March passenger statistics. 81,105 through the airport in March 2020 against 163,795 in March 2019. Considering that the first half of the month was essentially business as usual and the airport was still down 50%, what are we thinking for April...down 95%?

Most likely down in the 90's.

 

Only 2 flights listed on the FIDS at YYJ

 

PCA is operating Canadian Coast Guards crew changes from YYJ to Port Hardy and Prince Rupert a couple times over the last week with their Saab 340B aircraft.

Interesting article, includes YYJ, CEO interview, but I suspect it was done a few weeks ago when he states there was only 10 of the normal 100 flights per day operating. Now just 2.

It varies day-to-day based on demand. On Monday there were 5 sked flights, Tuesday and Wednesday there were 4, yesterday there were 5, today there's 2. Tomorrow has 2 scheduled and Sunday has 3. But generally most days are 5 or less at this point.

 

Also if Geoff is saying that YYJ normally handles 100 flights per day, he's referring to arrivals and departures, so 10 would be in the ballpark based on the above. YYJ doesn't do anywhere close to 100 departures per day even on its busiest day.

Again, 100 flights per day is correct if it’s referring to departures and arrivals. That distinction isn’t made clear, but based on the regular YYJ schedule, that is what 100 flights per day would equate to.

Slowly over the last 1 to 1.5 yrs, daily departures have dropped. I'm pretty sure pre-covid, YYJ was avg about just over 30ish departure flights per day max. Even in the peak season over the last two summers, 50 was a stretch.

No way. YYJ is right around 50 departures per day in summer. Here's what was to be the schedule for summer 2020 on an average Thursday, which is similar numbers to summer 2019.

 

Air Canada (17): 11x YVR, 3x YYC, 2x YYZ, 1x YUL

WestJet (17): 6x YYC, 5x YVR, 3x YEG, 2x YLW, 1x YYZ

Pacific Coastal (10): 5x YVR, 3x YLW, 2x YXS

Alaska (3): 3x SEA

Swoop (1): 1x YWG

Total: 48

 

This also doesn't take into consideration the intermittent flights from Air North and Island Express Air, who both operate Thursday flights.

 

And for a winter snapshot, ff you go back to Feb 7, 2019, there were 46 flights on the departures board.

 

Keep in mind that at any point in the year, there are generally around 20 daily flights to Vancouver alone. Add in the other loads to Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Prince George, Toronto, and Seattle, even in the low season you're at upwards of 40 flights daily.

 

Year-round (outside of COVID-19), YYJ is operating in the 40-50 departures range daily.

Lots of aircraft to be cut from AC’s fleet. Goodbye, Rouge 767.

Air Canada said it will move quickly to retire 79 older aircraft, including Boeing 767, Airbus 319 and Embraer 190 aircraft. The E190s will be retired immediately.

According to Skies contributor Howard Slutsken on Twitter, the fleet cuts will affect both the mainline operation as well as Air Canada Rouge. He reports that the mainline will lose five Boeing 767s, 13 Airbus A319s and 14 Embraer E190s.

The Air Canada website says Rouge operated a total of 65 aircraft pre-pandemic, including Boeing 767, Airbus A321, A320 and A319 models. It is set to lose all of its 767s and A319s, leaving it with just 18 Airbus A230 and 321s.

^Definitely A320...Rouge doesn't operate any A220s.
