Was perusing the YYJ Master Plan earlier and wondering if someone - Missed Approach perhaps - has any insight into potential terminal (or other) components of those expansion plans? Per the master plan which I realize is now itself a few years old, expected timeline for the eastward expansion of the terminal was originally projected in the 2023-27 timeframe.

As we're now on the cusp of 2026 I wonder if a few more solid quarters like this last one might spur the airport Authority to dust off the plan and being thinking seriously about that particular component of the terminal expansion, or not?

Sadly, the only info you will get regarding the expansion project is what was put out on local media.

The website is very very very out of date on every page and hasn't been updated even after inquiring if it would be by admin staff...... just silence.

Even AGM minutes are from 2024.....

Ms Brown said she has a open door policy, feels free to reach out and make inquires.

Thanks MA pretty much confirming what I suspected especially when I noticed the Strategic Plan is also similarly dated. Clearly they aren't in a hurry to do much if anything. Perhaps for good reason however the communication vacuum is very poor form. And comes nowhere close to appearing to be a professionally run organization.

As an ex-boss from many years ago said to me "There are three kinds of news: Good News, Bad News and - the worst type of news - No News at all". I remember Ms Brown's open door policy quote when she assumed the top position at YYJ. I wonder what's become of it because its not a good look.....

Also the website for our airprort looks terribly amateurish; compared to Kelowna the YYJ layout and overall design is flat out embarassing.

And just look at all the expansion projects current, pending and future at Kelowna, including a Sutton Place hotel and 1000-stall parkade both of which will be located directly adjacent to the new/upgraded terminal building - not perched somewhere way over on the other side of the airport property in the middle of nowhere like at YYJ -

Can't agree with you more, I think it was Mike K. who said it comes across as a selling website for lifestyle community resort.

YLW Kelowna airport is also run and operated by the City of Kelowna and has a PR / Marketing team, who does a great job promoting the airport on all social media platforms.

I'd reach out and see if you can get anyone at the VAA to reply to a inquiry and bring up these points you made.

Yes, I can't even see the latest ( this year ) AGM minutes .

Had a close friend lose his wife a year ago, he had plenty of family flying in, and checking flight statuses often, but was bothered by having HAPPY travelers flashing before him every time he went to the website.

The website isn’t good, no. There should never be forced videos playing when you’re accessing a transportation service resource.

Every single page has a half page Gif to watch over and over of HAPPY people.....

Airports are also places for sad good byes, sometimes for a very long time.

Arrivals for funerals, and final good byes here, and yes happy reunions and holiday seasons reasons too.

But stop trying to be an investment living scheme website.......

Can't think there's anyone left in the VAA admin office with the CAC's going on in Toronto this week.

It's like giant ball and pat on the back. I'm sure Ms Brown will be bringing home awards for the best little airport in Canada. Your AIF pays for their party ...

Wheeled service to YYJ and YAZ ( Tofino ) has started for fall/winter season.

Service already provided year-round by PAC from the south terminal

YLW ( Kelowna ) as a destination having a bumper year over year.

Having nearly double the hotel rooms than greater Victoria and double the 399 ( Citified.CA ) coming in the Greater Victoria area, no wonder the OK valley and area are doing so well. I have heard of one convention destined for Kelowna this year.

 https://www.travelan...rising-in-2024/

Article Picture made me laugh, not even YLW, but what Chat GP made up or Ai.........

Don't understand what this paragraph is trying to say when there is no direct flights to Europe

Kelowna has grown flights from international hubs like London and Frankfurt. This is because Kelowna is Canada’s wine region and people from Europe are coming to visit. More flights mean more people visiting Kelowna as well as more people from around the world who need to access the region

‘Pilot should be commended’: WestJet flight from Victoria to Cancun conducts emergency landing in Vancouver

No, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 cannot dump fuel, as it is not equipped with a fuel jettison system. The 737 MAX 8 is designed for shorter flights, so its maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) is not much higher than its maximum landing weight (MLW). In an emergency requiring an early return, the pilot will instead fly in a holding pattern to burn off enough fuel to land within the maximum landing weight limits.

It's too bad it doesn't have a fuel dump option.    It could have flown over to that ostrich farm and doused it.   :muching_out:

The new hotel at the airport is coming along. Some crews were working Sunday. Probably will be ready for business by the spring or early summer.

The project will feature a brand new 5,000 square foot restaurant, although the specific brand has yet to be confirmed.

A representative from the Kothari Group, the firm behind the development, has indicated that it will be a nationally recognized restaurant brand.

If these chaps are confident that the restaurant will be operated by a nationally known brand...why did they go to all the trouble of posting a huge sign on the property advertising restaurant space for lease?

Do they think that the CEO of White Spot is going to just stumble on to this opportunity by driving by?

Well, I suppose the applicant must assume the brand, meet the qualifications to run the brand or buy into the franchise.   If that is still the plan.  Perhaps it is not.

The current capacity of Tofino-Long Beach Airport is 100 people, but expansion plans for a new terminal are in the works along with a refreshed communications strategy as part of the long-term protocol agreement between Tla-o-qui-aht and Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD), who took over management of the airport in 2000.

The Government of Canada built the original YAZ runways in 1942-1943 for the Second World War.

What is desperately needed is the road to the terminal repaved...... Don't need speed bumps, its so rough, bad enough to rattle your dentures loose.
