Too many programs, I wish there was just one reward program where everything was combined.

Flair has started its summer seasonal service with flights to YYC and YEG only now.

I thought they were doing really well with OTP, on time preformance.

Tonites flight in bound is 1hr and 40mins late from YYC. ouch.

Is the comp promise they had still stand.... wasn't there something they were bragging about a year or two ago you'd get if they were late?

As far as return goes, it's a pretty poor partnership. Using the Journie app, 300 points = 300 Aeroplan points. IE, 1 point / L. Aeroplan point is worth about 1.5 cents, so you're getting 1.5 cents return on every litre. There are better programs to be had.

Oh, I just collect free points when you hit certain fuel purchase thresholds.

Air Canada scraps key US routes as fuel costs surge amid Iran war

Service to New York City’s JFK and Salt Lake City will be paused for months as the airline cites a sharp spike in jet fuel costs

They can’t compete with American alternatives, is what that means, because Canadian fuel prices are so much higher than what US carriers pay.

Nope. Why would Delta pay less for fuel in Toronto than Air Canada. And why would AC pay more in Salt Lake than Delta?

Route is too long to tanker fuel in for the round trip.

FWIW, American also ending their JFK to Toronto service next month.

Delta pays less for fuel overall, compared to Air Canada. They obviously can’t compete with American alternatives.

Their fuel cost to operate a Canadian route will be equal to a Canadian carrier, though. It doesn't really matter what they pay to fly from Atlanta to Miami if your thesis is that Air Canada can't compete with Canadian airlines on transborder routes.

As long as I can remember, Horizon captains had (releases ) flight plans that took on more fuel in Canada as it was cheaper. Not sure if thats still the case, but when we called the fueler, it was a top up beyond what was needed for the flight back to SEA

Americans are whining about the high cost of gas at $4.50 a gallon, they would have a stroke if they had to buy gas in Canada.

Sure glad we are an oil producing country.

AC trimmed back a number of routes, domestic, transborder and international. WS is doing the same. The US-based carriers are also trimming capacity.

AC can compete against the US carriers just fine, their operating costs (labour) are substantially lower.

Then why are prices on Air Canada so much higher?

So much higher than what? US carriers? I suppose you could find examples that they are higher, and others where they are lower.

If we use the Salt Lake to Toronto flight that they are cutting in at the end of June, here is the AC pricing for non stop flights from Salt Lake to Toronto on their operating days:

Screenshot 2026-04-21 180335.png

Meanwhile, here is Delta's pricing for their non-stop flights:

Screenshot 2026-04-21 180514.png

Both start at the same price, $391 tax in. AC has a few dates where fares jump significantly - that would generally indicate fairly full flights. Full flights would indicate that AC is competing just fine if people are willing to pay more.

Closer to home, here's lowest one stop pricing on Alaska vs AC, Victoria to San Francisco.

Air Canada:

Alaska:

Screenshot 2026-04-21 181036 AS.png

Looks like both are fairly competitive, with AC a few dollars lower than AS on most days.

I meant Air Canada fares are so much higher overall, and why are we singling out Delta? There are so many other carriers.

Some fleet shifting with AC as YYJ will see less of Airbus 321/320/319 and getting B737 Max flights to YYZ

Delta was the only other carrier offering service on the discontinued route (SLC-YYZ), so it was the best comparison reference.

But I also gave an Alaska Airlines comparison where AC was cheaper.

I don't generally find AC fares higher than other carriers. Exception being Business class, but they are generally quite competitive in Economy.
