OK, so that rock drilling equipment I reported on in May did nothing, sat for a while, then left.

Actual activity on site now.

Excavating to rock etc.

Why don't we see more steel construction in Victoria?

A guy building a house at Bear Mountain used steel construction. Quite popular back east.

probably just cost. there is likely a bit of a shortage of skilled labour locally for that type of construction. so crews are brought in and housed. adds a few bucks for sure.

when we built the arena the steel span roofing labour was all from the mainland.

Easier to find local labourers that can do stick framing or tack up panels than to bring in qualified steel installers.

Also, the cost of steel vs. wood.

Weren't we supposed to be excited about the first tall building in Victoria using wood? But now we are excited about a much shorter building using steel? I'm confused.

The First Island and I think St Andrew’s Square towers used steel, no? Sussex might have as well?

steel (without concrete) only makes sense to a certain height. towers can’t use it. It’s great for shopping malls.

Well jeez you should have told the Empire State Building crews that so they could have warned the Sears Tower crews :)

And check out this steel beam going into Vic High. Must have been related to the old gym or the auditorium?

I'm steeling myself in preparation for any rebuttals. But it's okay, iron sharpens iron.
