Yes, I went for the first time last Tuesday evening.

It was quite busy, with 80% men as customers. Maybe it was just the day? Maybe just the time? Lots of hipster dudes like the place, I guess.

It’s crazy to think that 25 years ago we had just three liquor venues in that area, Swans, Cafe Mexico (as a restaurant, bigger focus on food not drinks like today), and Sweetwaters. 20 years ago we had Canoe, Swans, Cafe Mexico as a restaurant, and the club below Swans. Today we have:

Drake
Whistle Buoy
Swans
Canoe/Craft
Herald Street Brew Works
End Dive
The Duke
Phillips Tasting Room
Tug
Nubo Kitchen & Bar
Cafe Mexico as a restaurant + large bar

Alcohol drives the downtown retail economy now. And the problem restaurants are having is providing the food necessary to permit their liquor primary-like liquor sales.

The old saloon district has been ruined by all of these new saloons. Nobody cares about heritage and history anymore.

I went to Craft for post work drinks and wasn't impressed. The service was awful and the drinks are shrink-flationed. 13oz for the same prices you will get a full 20oz pint at other establishments in town.

There is a new one opening up called Hardiplank + Spandrel. It’s gonna be lit.

Been a couple of times since it became "Craft". Seems pretty popular, but like some I find their "list prices" a bit on the high side and the 400 ml beers are slightly sneaky...that said, if you check out daily specials and happy hour, it can be very reasonable. The $5 BC beer special lets you choose a normally pricy one like Longwood Stoutnik Russian Imperial Stout. The night I went there with a group, the place was heaving, but a veritable army of servers served us very speedily. That was early days though and I don't know if they've maintained that staffing level.
