Since "outdoor recreation" includes parks, and 900 hectares of this will be park I guess this is the best forum for this.

9,700-hectare land purchase protects future drinking water supply for CRD residents, and adds to regional park system
The agreement involves two separate parcels of land. The land for the water supply is located west of the existing Sooke water supply lands. At 8,791 hectares, the Leech River watershed nearly doubles the CRD’s water supply area. The second parcel, 932 hectares for new regional park land, is located east of the Sooke Potholes Regional Park and is being purchased with support from The Land Conservancy of British Columbia (TLC).

“This is one of the largest, most important land acquisitions in recent BC history. The addition of the Leech River watershed, which can be connected to the CRD’s water supply reservoirs, is a prudent strategic acquisition that secures and protects our future water source,” said Nils Jensen, Chair of the CRD Regional Water Supply Commission. “While the Sooke Reservoir is expected to meet regional water needs for at least the next 15 years, we have taken action that provides a legacy for the future.”

Wilderness Mountain Water System
The Wilderness Mountain Water System delivers drinking water to properties on Mt. Matheson. Currently the system is privately owned and provides water under a Provincial "certificate of public convenience" to the Wilderness Mountain Water Area.

The system owner has expressed interest in transferring the water system to another owner or the CRD. The CRD, with the support of the system owner, Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Regional Director Erik Lund and the Vancouver Island Health Authority, has applied to the Province for an infrastructure grant to assist with funding of certain water system upgrade works deemed necessary if the CRD were to become involved in the takeover of the asset from the private owner. The CRD has received notice from the Province that a sizable infrastructure grant will be made available to the district should owners in the water area support the transfer of the water system from private ownership to public ownership under CRD.

A little further afield, rumour has it that Chip Wilson (of Lululemon[/url:8fe73] fame) wants to buy a big parcel of land at Jordan River to ensure its preservation as a nature preserve/ surfer paradise. See this site[/url:8fe73]:

With the recent announcement by Western Forest Products that they will sell some coastal blocks of property surfers have come to the realization that we could lose existing ready access to the point at Jordan River, BC.
(...snip...)
? *rumour has it that Chip Wilson [ Lululemon] has offered 20 million for the parcel including the point at JR. His idea is to keep the land preserved as it is. The only addition would be a center somewhere for people to study ecology, art and movement. The only thing is that someone offered 50 million for 4 parcels and he only wants 1 for 20 million. according to his real estate agent, w.f.p would obviously like to sell it all for 50 mil.

No idea if this land would be held in trust, privately, or given to the people of the CRD, BC, or Canada.
