Area residents continue to be concerned over the future of wooded lot behind a youth baseball diamond – a property recently approved for rezoning by Esquimalt council.

 

The approval, which followed a March 7 public hearing, will allow for construction of a planned five-storey, 42-unit rental apartment building, with three two-storey stratified penthouse condos at 880 Fleming St., currently an unserviced lot with no road access from the cul-de-sac. Its units will be split into thirds of 14 units priced at market rate, just below market rate and provincially subsidized levels...

View Royal has approved a 234-unit rental complex steps from Victoria General Hospital.

 

The project, called Aspire by Calgary-based Boardwalk REIT, will have three buildings surrounding a central courtyard on the corner of Helmcken Road and Burnside Road West and provide a “gateway” to View Royal’s northern border with Saanich.

Thank God it has that gateway component.    That's what is really missing in this town, the formal transition between the 13 municipalities.  The gateway will probably be a real magnet.  I hope they make it out of something solid, like rock or steel or even titanium, because it's going to see lots of traffic.

Do we have a thread of this 180 unit + 7 townhome development in Esquimalt? Btw, does anyone know what the story is here. A couple of buildings are almost finished but at the same time they are still working on the complex parkade? Seems like they will be sitting on finished vacant buildings for a couple of years...seems odd?
