Its like, 15 min walk to Hillside mall. For most thats totally fine, and HIllside mall has most of the services people will need on a weekly basis.

Nope. but I often see a mom or dad walking to the grocery store, 15 minutes each way.

Do they own a $1 million townhouse?Nope. but I often see a mom or dad walking to the grocery store, 15 minutes each way.
I mean, we have to be realistic here.
Something like 98 or 99% of medium to high income households own at least one car. And most where at least two adults are present own at least two.
In my entire life I’ve never known anyone that could afford a car, that didn’t own one.

In general sure, or perhaps rented. Hard to know. I do know there are lots of people who own and are making an effort to stop driving. Now, is that realistic for most? probably not. Is it realistic for 9 families or couples who want more space perhaps in a neighbourhood with decent transit and a short walk to a major mall? I think so.
Also, so does Saanich council, clearly.
These will have no issues selling.

The nearby residents won’t like it, but then their tenants park on the street too, so it’s not like they can object to others doing the same.

Coun. Colin Plant acknowledged residents’ fears of change, but said nine units is simply not that big. Plant said, however, that it is a step in the right direction.

... the project was supported by a number of speakers residing in other municipalities across Greater Victoria during the public hearing...
Their opinion should be given little consideration.

Nine homes, no parking, and a bigger return
The deed is done. An infill development at the corner of Allenby and Richmond has been unanimously approved by Saanich council. A corner lot that could have comfortably fit a duplex or maybe accommodated three units with setbacks and other restrictions now has been approved for nine homes with no parking. Shocking.
Now, however, what must be addressed is the elephant on the block and how any developer, no matter how righteous and eco-friendly, can parlay an investment return of perhaps $750,000 (times three) on the lot to an extraordinary $600,000 (times nine). Don’t quibble with the numbers, the point is made.
For the neighbours, my biggest fear would be the crushing footprint of the beast and its trunk probing the privacy of everyone around it. But the developer gets $5.4 million. Nice.

Ah Max, Max,Max.....still fighting the good (class) fight I see. Once upon a time I worked at the same employer as Max Miller and he hasn't changed a bit since 1979.
A supporter of the 'old' NDP from that era - a good ideological warrior was old Max! - his main bone of contention in life was the Us vs Them, the Working vs Professional, managerial class trope. And organized vs unorganized labor, 'good guy' unions vs the 'bad guy' capitalists.
Rest very assured he cares not one whit about the "neighbors" here, this is all about, as its always been, nothing more than a comment about the ongoing struggle between the proletariat and those b*****s who dare to make more money than the average person. I actually miss Max, he was fun to debate with......

I had to laugh at that math too. It's not like they profit every penny of the gross sales. Maybe the developer will make 1 mill. Maybe (though unlikely) they'll make nothing.

The Oakwoods....not much out there about this massive 180-unit development.
Really interesting construction process. Some buildings have been >90% done for a while now while others are just being framed.

Maybe they should change their name to Swoop or Sunwing.

We’re going to try to have this fellow on the 10 on the 10th. The company has a Victoria proposal scheduled for public hearing in February, also without parking (if I’m not mistaken).
