Are there any merge lanes in the Victoria area with a median barrier? Not even sure what that would look like
Does the merge lane onto the Pat Bay Highway heading north from McKenzie qualify?

McKenzie is even worse . Less of the merge lane is protected from traffic on both side than the Leigh rd one. Leigh rd has a very wide buffer of grass until you actually get into the flow of traffic on the highway
The traffic on the highway also has plenty of time to see cars coming down that ramp to merge and to prepare to let them in.

The big difference is that the Pat Bay is a divided highway at that location, whereas the TC at the Leigh Road merge lane is not.

well according to the media it had nothing to do with the merge lane not having a barrier right to the very end.
It was a head on collision on the highway

Anytime we head south from Goldstream park we always stay in the far right lane coming up that hill on the bend towards leigh interchange. Anyone straddling the centre line is only asking for a problem

That corner heading east can be hair-raising with no median barrier.
If there is a problem at the Leigh Road merge lane heading west, those vehicles could get pushed over the centre line into the east going traffic.
Confirmed by this?

My point about the merge and the barrier is that there is no centre line median barrier dividing north and south bound traffic where the merge is. Should something go wrong at the merge, northbound traffic can get bumped head-on into southbound traffic. The interchange design is not standard. The eastern portion is 4 lanes and divided and the western portion is 3 lanes undivided.
I would hope that the upcoming reconfiguration of TCH / West Shore Parkway (adding dual left turn lanes from TCH northbound to W Shore Parkway) would also include adding a 2nd northbound passing lane plus centre line median barrier between Leigh Rd and Ice Cream Mountain.

And these are the folks that we are trusting to get the McKenzie Interchange right?
The province has announced it has started planning work to four-lane and divide the Trans-Canada Highway from the Leigh Road Interchange to Goldstream Park.A timeline and a cost estimate haven't been finalized, but the Ministry of Transportation projects the design work will be finished in 2017.Transportation Minister Todd Stone says this initiative and completion of the Leigh Road Interchange project are improving safety for everyone who travels along the corridor.

https://news.gov.bc....TRAN0044-000357The ministry is undertaking planning work to four-lane and add median barriers to approximately two kilometres of Highway 1 from the Leigh Road interchange to the Goldstream Park boundary, which is located about 500 metres north of the West Shore Parkway intersection. Design work for this future project is anticipated to be complete in 2017. The ministry will develop a timeline for construction and finalize a cost estimate as part of the planning process.

Really!
You mean it took a head on collision before they realised it would be prudent to install median barriers?

I was able to film the entire portion of the Bear Mtn Parkway from Leigh Rd Interchange to Bear Mtn resort last night
I did one about a year ago but it was only a portion of it.
this time the right of was has been cleared a little more and the survey markers are in place.

Once this road is complete there will be subdivisions and homes all the way along that road as well as side streets in place.

^^^Would have been better going the other way so the sun was behind you instead of in front of you, made it hard to see in places.
But thanks for that anyway, can't wait for this to get done.

the sun was only in the lens for under 30 seconds out of the 11minute clip but I may do it in reverse sometime soon

Here is a better version of Bear Mtn Parkway up from Leigh Rd
The critics from the previous video wanted less sun in the lens
The drive too 9 minutes video is sped up. when the road is done it will probably be a 5 minute drive.
they are working at the Leigh Rd end now falling trees
