I really like this one except the beige siding on the backside.

I love this style, and the diversity of cladding really spices it up. I even like the beige.

I'm concerned about the longevity of the wood paneling that's become so popular in Victoria. One of the new buildings at Selkirk Waterfront has this type of paneling and it's losing its luster to the elements.

Know it all.

I used to live near there, and am glad to be away from the construction noise now.

Anyhow, I agree about it being a sharp looking building. Unfortunately the adjacent ones are not so nice and quite close.

There is a web site for the development at http://www.prodigyde....com/meares.htm

I'm a bit surprised at the prices. The unit on the southeast corner, with the worst view (drab apartment block to the east, flophouse to the south), is $524,000.

I like how naturally it seems to fit there. A nice urban addition to a quiet, forgotten little side street.

It looks like they've sold one of the units -- the one on the south-east corner.

I wonder how much it went for...

The SE corner unit was the cheapest unit (and my personal favourite). It probably sold for the asking price (or close to it)... and the buyers are entitled to the 10k 'cash back at closing' that the developers are offering through the marketing campaign.

I take it you had a look inside. What did you like about the SE corner unit?

I liked these things about it:

1) It is a corner unit with a lot of light exposure from the east and south
2) At the same time, it's not the southwest corner, so it wouldn't be 'too hot' during the summer.
3) It's at the 'end of the sidewalk', making it one of the most private in the complex.
4) The master bedroom & bath suite occupy the entire top floor, and there's a fantastic walk-through closet space.
5) The bottom floor is 'semi-contained' (i.e. one bed, one full bath, one office) and would be great for accomodating visiting friends/relatives.
6) It was the least expensive suite! :)

Yeah, the SE unit seems to be the best and least expensive. I'll be curious to see how fast the other units sell as they are priced pretty high.

I stumbled into their open house this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I was in #1, ground floor entry, the suite with the overhanging exterior corner.

Entry floor has a lobby area that can work as a den/office and has a window on to Meares. Access at the back of the room to private parking garage.

Up the stairs to large light kit/din/living area. Big corner windows in LR and a nice part-wall to put a corner armchair instead of the boring plain rectangle most projects are doing. Powder room at the rear. Balcony off the kit for morning coffee but overlooked by the older apt. bldg. to the west. Gas f/p.

Up quite a long flight of stairs and two bedrooms, one w/ensuite (no tub). 2nd bathroom w/tub in between and closet for stacking w/d. Not too bad, BRs not huge but ok.

Another longish flight of stairs up to private roof deck. Deck was advertised at 160 ft2 but MUCH bigger than that. Major selling feature and on top floor should be ok for bbqs.

Very downtown feeling and plenty of room for a jungle if you like (I would do it for sure). Rough-sawn wood trim (bit cheap looking) separating decks and asphalt shingle/roll for deck surface. Pavers laid over top on about 40% of area, not pretty but could be covered.

Finishing about what you would expect in the 5-600K range. Overall not a bad project for real downtown living that's not an apt. block. All views are very d-town, not much greenery, no vistas but funky urban streetscapes.
Quibble: no built-in vac for what is quite an up-and-down living space.
Also popped into Aria and was quie disappointed. Small show units, mediocre finish, institutional hallways. Real nice from outside but I suspect not that many real nice units that are affordable. I thought Meares was a much better space for the same mid-500K range.

It seems they've all been sold.

This one can be changed to "completed".
