Welcome to the dangers of civil forfeiture.

I think the seizure was actually because of the device to hide the license plate, as that is a violation of the MVA, rather than civil forfeiture.

"Police want the car forfeited to the Crown as offence-related property."

That's civil forfeiture. The CCC offence here is Fraud under $5,000, not an MVA offence.  The police want the car to be seized as an implement of crime.

My first thought is it's easier to be one when your avatar/handle is a first name.

Yeah I agree.  There are definitely some people who should not be driving, and people like this that have zero concerns for the rules would rank pretty high up there IMO.

Seizing a guys car because he was an idiot that tried to get out of paying the bridge toll is an over reaction....he's not a drug dealer or armed robber....

So in that respect then, maybe your bike should be seized for running that stop sign as you are more likely to endanger others by your actions than pulling a wire to mask a license plate....

Ok, but only if I'm on a bike equivalent of a Geo Metro.

Terror for anyone going over the bridge at the time. No headlights seen in the frame right when it went down though.

Maybe now we’ll install bumpers at the Johnson Street Bridge.

This could have easily happened under the bridge to North Van, the name which escapes me.

Know it all.

The crew of the cargo ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore lost power and issued a mayday in the moments before the disaster, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said.

The container ship Dali sent the mayday in time for authorities to stop traffic from entering the bridge, limiting the number of vehicles involved in what officials have called a "mass casualty event."

"We're thankful that between the mayday and the collapse that we had officials who were able to begin to stop the flow of traffic so more cars were not on the bridge," Moore said.

Authorities said a crew of eight construction workers were on the bridge, in addition to any traffic at the time of the collapse.

Never happen. That would require that someone admit they were wrong.
