I'm quite new to everything as far urban development is concerned, and I'm wondering who the big names with big money are in this city when it comes to development.

The reason I'm wondering is because it was explained to me that a heritage property can be a good acquisition for someone developing in another part of town. As heritage buildings (Kramer's specifically if you've been reading my posts) have negative real-estate values, developers made be allowed to increase density in other areas to balance out the loss of restoring a heritage property. Since I'm -very- serious about saving the Janion building, I need to know who would be the right person for the job.

Beyond my personal interests, I think it would be worthwhile to discuss who's who in downtown development.

(If this is being discussed elsewhere or if there is a better way to find out, this thread might not be necessary, I just wasn't sure where to ask.)

The VV board of directors are worth collectively over $1.8B. That's why we basically shape development in this town. It's a simple numbers game.

Westbank is the (co?) developer doing the Woodward's revitalization in Vancouver. That looks awesome & will spruce up that block a whole lot. (& it isn't all high-end condos)

They've already done Shutters & Parc Residences in town here, and a third (The Falls) is under construction right now. Two other Vancouver developers are fixing up buildings on Yates St. Chris Lefevre is fixing up the Leiser (old CRD headquarters) Building next door to the Morley Soda Factory building, and the Oriental Hotel building. Michael Alston is fixing up the building where Steamers used to be. I think there are a few developers that could do a good job with the Kramer buildings.

If you want to save the Janion building, convince Mrs Kramer to sell it. Trust me, the deep pockets in this town will line up.

I called and left a message with her today. We'll see if she gets back to me. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the development info.

Windmill, Tri-Eagle, Townline, and Chard are repped, but why isn't Westbank at the table?

It seems as though the team behind Cielo Properties is quite large. They own/have built many large buildings in Victoria and the region - albeit many of the commercial ones they list they don't seem to own anymore.

Anyone have more info on them?

It's a father and son team.

A family situation several years ago removed Mr. Sipos from the development scene for a while. Now he's back and his son, in his early 20's, is now working alongside him.

Know it all.

It's nice to see Stan back after being out of the spotlight for a few years. It must have been pretty stressful period for him between 2007-2009; he had multiple major projects on the go, his wife died and he was being considered as a possible mayoral candidate in the 2008 election.

I see. Do they still own quite a bit of commercial in town?

A few of his operating companies went bankrupt as well if I recall (ie Dynam Group and Canaam)

Isn't Canaam the electrical company?
