The Evviva is just leaving now, it was at the marina yesterday.

Nice looking vessel. Saw it on Saturday. Has its own personal helicopter. Sweet.

Here's a photo of the boat with the chopper.

Why don't we have more photos of the marina progress?  Gary, can you get us some?

I'm not Gary, but photos as of this morning, May 8, 2018:

Interesting interior design element coming in:

Those with watercraft may possibly still travel under the buildings at lower tides:

I just love the design of these new buildings at the marina. Best thing to happen in the Songhees in years.

What a literal hellscape they are creating! Give me back my vacant, rocky shoreline!!!

Those new marina buildings are wildly out of scale. They overpower the walkway and completely block out the buildings behind.

Did Pam whisper this in your ear?

Just look at how the very highest part of that roofline absolutely looms over those Victorian lampposts by at least a few inches. That hedge on the right looks like an ordinary hedge by comparison.

Even worse, I noticed as I walked near the partially completed buildings the other day, if I manoeuvred myself into just the right position (sort of a modified "downward dog" pose), my view of the Sooke Hills was obscured. Shameful. The ruination of our fair city is clearly underway.

The ruination of our fare city...

A high price to pay, indeed.

Thanks for the photography work Janion Guy.

I especially like the one with the wildflowers in the foreground.

The shot with the Coho is not too shabby either.

More blue lights, though these are a bit more toward purple than the bridge lights.

It does add some visual interest to that area of the harbour. I wonder how the neighbours feel about it? Of course they were the vociferous NIMBYs against the marina from the start. And how do you all feel about the lights? Thoughts peeps?

Don't be so sure.

...I wonder how the neighbours feel about it?...

More importantly, how do the fish feel about it?

It looks great when there are boats parked next to it. It lights up the white fiberglass with a cold blue glow. By themselves, the lights are pretty meh.

Hopefully the marina will busy through the summer.

They use their lateral lines. I suppose some of them might also use their fins or tails if so inclined.

I was at the Blue Crab in the Coast Harbourside hotel for Father's Day dinner over the weekend, which as it happens is almost directly across the harbor from the new marina.

Mrs ASE, who follows not the comings and goings of new developments in this town, remarked "wow what is that?!" in a most approving tone. From that vista I had/have to second that: "wow".....in short it looks fantastic and breathes a whole new life into an area and section of the harbour that was lifeless and deadly dull and utterly bereft of inspiration (yes I am referring to that awful architectural travesty known as the original 80's-era Songhees).

Makes me wonder where Knot-A-Yacht and other NIMBY VV posters of his ilk are these days: remember him?

According to K-A-Y the End Times were well and nigh should this abomination ever see the light of day. The mere existence of said facility would cause the dead to arise and dogs and cats would engage in unnatural relations and ultimately force God to smote Victoria out of its earthly existence...except......wait! none of that...um....actually happened and we now have as a result a nice facility with some uber-cool architecture and badly needed services on our harbour to boot. So much for the gloom and doomers....
