The temporary orca exhibit seem to be mostly just a bunch of posters on the wall .

That is true of most of the RBCM temporary or 'special' exhibits. They seem to either be replicas or junk from the storage lockers of other museums. Certainly nothing I would pay extra to see.

Part of the issue attracting high profile traveling exhibits is that the museum has to prove a high standard of environmental control and consistency. With the 50 year old infrastructure, this proves difficult.

By international standards isn't the RBCM a fairly young museum?

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

Baby!

I think the real issue is that decent displays cost money. People don't travel to Victoria to go to the museum so they do the best with what they are willing to spend.

Can you actually cite anything (anything at all) to support this statement?

“B.C. museum was warned origin of 'Indigenous' artifact was in doubt before announcing finding, documents show”

“..Within minutes of the carver's claim to the stone being published, the Royal B.C. Museum quietly removed all mention of the carving from its website. But the discovery had already been widely reported by local and national media, stoking excitement throughout the archaeological community...”: https://vancouverisl...-show-1.5709999

What temporary moving exhibit would you like to see come to Victoria?

Top Canadian museum to be imminently gutted in the name of 'decolonization'

Tristin Hopper: With little notice and even less transparency, the Royal B.C. Museum is demolishing some of Canada's most iconic exhibits with no idea of what's going to replace them

It's really quite surprising that the Province hasn't stepped in at this point, at least to put a "hold" on these plans until such time as a management group other than the current museum management can fully vet what is being proposed.

With the Minister responsible for the museum being one of the first to jump on the bandwagon declaring the 3rd floor had to be removed ASAP, it really only leaves Horgan and his advisors to step in and display a more level headed approach than the current "burn it all down, rip it all out" mindset being promoted by the current crop of fools running the museum.

There is a petition, but has it received any media attention?

You're joking right? There isn't a level-head in the entire NDP government.

I am surprised that the board is allowing this to happen. Many of the members are respected community leaders and you would think would have some common sense.

It's the ridiculous power of a combination of cancel-culture and woke-washing ... a tragic pairing that causes otherwise smart folks to do really stupid, and in this case, irreversible things.

Combined with a lack of courage in 99% of the people who could put a stop to it but prefer to virtue signal instead.

I understand Woke Washing is also playing at the Tinto Rocks festival in 2022.

We really have become a frightened, sheepish society.

We celebrate victimhood and being afraid. Reward safety over all else, even though life is anything but safe and nothing we do will ever take all dangers away. Many don’t seem to get that. It’s like they are playing whack-a-mole with tunnel vision. 🤪
