The proof will be in the pudding as they say. I expect a total waist of money.  What was has been destroyed, without anyone's consent. I doubt they asked the FN people even before they nuked what was a gem of a museum. What is required now is to remake the space into something new entirely. Look at what it was, which was a cool place to spend many hours with kids. Remake the spaces with that in mind in a fresh way. I doubt they will do that.

What it really needs is a clear and unequivocal demand from the government of the  Province of British Columbia to completely return the RBCM to its former stature within one year - or see termination of all museum management positions, and complete closure of all public facing facilities.

What isn't irrelevant is her complete and utter lack of any previous museum management experience - making her choice by the Board somewhat mystifying. One hopes the Board saw in her experience and interviews a solid understanding of how one facilitates a business plan turnaround in what is currently a continuously failing operation.

Blair, do you mean it is relevant?

Wouldn’t be a bad venue for a Science World type of place. IMAX and all.

Blair, do you mean it is relevant?

Yes, completely relevant.

She clearly has zero facility management experience, let alone any sort of museum management experience.

Whether that ultimately impedes her ability to execute the massive turnaround that is required at the RBCM definitely remains to be seen.

There’s certainly no clear reason to be at all optimistic.

They have destroyed it. Can't go back. Just make something new in the sprit of. Like a Science World. A place where you can just enjoy exploring and walking around, and being in. That was what it was because there was an artist behind the permanent exhibits. Now it will be extreme woke bureaucrats. The opposite of artists.

Imax, traveling exhibits and a fun place to be with kids or as adults with a regional theme. A place to take the kids when it is raining. Light on the history please as I don't want their guilt trip history.

Whoops, my brain read is, not isn’t irrelevant.

Yes, totally. The outcome here raises so many questions. Did they struggle in finding someone who was willing to run the museum? Did the mission statement clash with other candidates?

It’s uncanny that we end up with a local bureaucrat.

Know it all.

I don’t at all disagree with you, and suspect that (after some sort of full or partial closure) this is indeed what we will wind up seeing.

I doubt any of the current senior management will still be around when this happens - but unfortunately the timelines as I see them approach a decade or more with the current molasses management we see taking place.

It’s almost as if RBCM senior management are now afraid to do anything at all, so I don’t see any sort of speedy change anytime soon.

My guess would be that this new boss will demonstrate her intentions within the first couple of major decisions / management-moves she makes.

Remind me, when was the last time any western politician ever demonstrated personal intentions or made any kind of decision? We're counting in decades at this point.

Maybe we’re being too hard on the NDP.

Remember, the museum was about to literally fall down, but through the magic of public outrage, the NDP made all the problems go away. That’s incredible.

I think you have twigged on something. The problems have arisen from indecisive actions. Solving homelessness? A lot of action and money spent on indecision.

It’s still in the midst of a years-long closure of many of its third-floor exhibits for a “decolonization” process.

^Case in point. Altering the exhibits should be a piece of cake, shouldn't it? If we were sincere and deliberate about altering the exhibits to more accurately reflect Marvel or Star Wars then we could probably get the entire place done in a month. Theme parks routinely overlay entire attractions for Halloween or Christmas and then take it all down again.

How is it possible that extended periods of limbo should be a common ingredient in so many of these political dramas? The same stupor seems to come over everything. These days almost anyone can identify agendas by their brand name and spout off the highlighted buzz-words, but beyond that there tends to be nothing there. Just wheels spinning in the mud.

People jump aboard today's bandwagon with both feet, then proclaim or perform whatever superficial nonsense they're pressured to proclaim or perform, and then twiddle their thumbs waiting for the next bandwagon to show up. Jump aboard the next bandwagon and the previous one rolls away into obscurity, almost as if the proclaimed concerns, principles, and purposes were just vapour.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm wasting precious time here that I could be devoting toward ending homelessness. And the environment sure isn't going to save itself. Stay apart to stay safe. If you see something, say something. We can do this. No child left behind. We're all in this together. Abhorring is caring. blah blah blah

... the Board of Directors that hired her.

Is it the same board that hired the previous CEOs?

Is it the same board that hired the previous CEOs?

Boards of Directors in B.C. tend to have term limits for members, so it's unlikely (although not impossible) that anybody on the Board today was on the Board for a previous hire.

The reason it's not impossible however, is because former Board members are usually welcome back after a fixed number of years away from the Board, to replace another departing Board member.
