For some reason I don't find the conference-centre-turned-casino idea to be so objectionable. But I think people would flip out at the idea of a new conference centre where the terminal is.

^ What about tearing down the old conference centre and adding a couple of nice towers where it was (now I am really going to get shredded).

The building (looks more like a trailer) is a dump. I'm surprised the regular suspects on this forum think it's good enough to represent a tourist's first view of victoria on land.

But just think how awed they are when they come out of the terminal.

You make it too nice and you destroy that.:)
Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

Hopes for Victoria ferry terminal upgrade gets a boost
Andrew Duffy / Times Colonist
May 28, 2014 06:00 AM

The ferry companies that operate out of Belleville Street Terminal are, for the first time in years, sounding optimistic that positive changes may be coming to the tired waterfront site.

Operators of the Clipper and Coho ferries were happy to hear B.C. Transportation Minister Todd Stone tell a Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce audience that the terminal represents “an exciting opportunity.”

This seems kind of novel, a marketing deal with the Coho:

Keizer, Oregon, June 3, 2014 - With the start of the West Coast League's 10th season only days away, the League is excited to announce a partnership with Black Ball Ferry Line that will see the Coho ferry designated as the "Preferred Ferry of the West Coast League" for the 2014 season.

"We are a league that is dependent on reliable travel services, and the Coho Ferry is positioned ideally for most trips to Vancouver Island for our member teams," said West Coast League President Dennis Koho.

With the WCL's successful expansion to the Victoria market in 2013, ferry travel became a necessary part of team travel logistics. This relationship will assist WCL members in more efficiently scheduling safe voyage to the Island while helping teams best manage travel expenses.

Hold on, check out the WCL president's name!

I wonder if moving the Black Ball Coho Ferry terminal more to the west, and move the Clipper services to the east (a swap) would make sense? This would allow more room for the Coho to back out of her berth without coming as close to the new float plane facility.

It would be a good time for Black Ball gain some additional vehicle parking space, as well as for both companies to build new terminals.

What do you think?

Short of a technical failure, the COHO has lots of room to back up.  But I see no good reason it needs to stay in the harbour.  Ogden Point seems a better place for it.  Do we still have the infrastructure that loaded the Stena boat to Seattle there?

Nope it is long gone. I don't think there is room for it in the summer when the cruise ships are in.

Hmmmm, you might be right.   Back when Clipper ran the car ferry, we never had 3 cruise ships in at once?

Like G-Man said...it's gonzo from Pier South B

But if you want to see a photo of the Coho rearranging the docks near the Regent Hotel.

1987 to 2000. BC Steamships thence Stena Line operated a car carrying ferry service to Seattle from Pier South B.

- 2003: Ogden Point receives a $3 million upgrade by the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority to raise Pier South B and provide Customs facilities.

It's nice that the Coho arrives in the inner harbour without question! Landing in the industrial, parking lot wasteland that is ogden point would not be so nice.... I already find it somewhat embarrassing that the landing on the Port Angeles side is a lot nicer than on our side. To down grade it even further would be just too much for me handle :-). Downtown PA to downtown Vic is a big selling feature for the pedestrian traffic. Now if the wasteland got an upgrade and the coho didn't mind losing pedestrian traffic to the blackball then it might be all good out there. That zone needs an upgrade anyway....

I don't think the Coho has much pedestrian traffic.  And I'm unclear what your second sentence means.

Yeah they get a ton of walk-ons. There is not space at Ogden so it really isn't an option anyways.

What about a new Ferry Terminal / Sewage Treatment plant at Clover Point? Outflow Pipe could run along a new Breakwater so the waves wouldn't be to rough and it would likely cut down on travel time.
