A 5-storey rental building is being proposed for 933 and 935 Convent Place (around the corner from the redevelopment of Beacon Arms). Most of the 19 units will have two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Nice find Kapten.
Looks like the applicant is Hillel Arch (on behalf of Cheng and Jan Lim).
Any idea who they are?

Thanks Mixed365; I'm guessing that Cheng and Jan Lim are just 'mom and pop' investors who purchased these two lots with an eye towards developing them into a standalone rental building.as an investment. I heard Dave Hutniak (CEO of Landlord BC) on CBC Radio yesterday and he said that most landlords in BC are small operators, and I know that some of the 4-storey apartment blocks in Fairfield are individually owned too...

Ya fair enough. Was just wondering if maybe they were silent big investors/developers.
I hope they know what they are up against as they go through the rezoning process.

There was an initial, pre-CALUC community meeting last month and it went reasonably well; the much-bigger Beacon Arms redevelopment (around the corner) likely blunted some of the potential controversy here...

A tower crane is being put up next to the (former?) Vancouver Island School of Art at 2549 Quadra St. I see there is a thread about the VISA but I can't recall or find mention of a project happening at the aforementioned location.

Plans have been revised for the townhouse development at 3080-3090 Washington Avenue. The proposal, by Curate Developments, has been revised to 24 townhouses ranging from 1200-1500 square feet. It was previously a 26-unit proposal, and it appears that they have reduced unit count to 'spread' the 24 houses over ten buildings on this site.
Here's a view of the revised proposal (from Dev Tracker):
Note: you can see a rendering of the previous proposal at Curate's website: https://www.curatedevelopments.com/

I heard about a local residential development that implemented a "one trades per day on the site" rule and there was some sort of date mixup and two groups of trades workers showed up one morning and a fight almost broke out.

It looks like Aryze has officially applied for a rezoning for the 'affordable ownership' townhouse development they are proposing for the corner of Foul Bay and Quamichan:

What will the heritage folks think of this design (vs the current building)?
NParker, I'm not sure that the current building on the site can be salvaged; hence the development proposals.

Oh I am sure it can't be salvaged. I am just wondering what sort of pushback there will be on a design that in no way resembles the "heritage" building.
