The problem with these additions is they in no way respect the original buildings.

Found out that 550-558 Pandora (west of Government) is under a redevelopment proposal to build 38 condos. A community meeting took place earlier this evening.

Current residents in the building include Cavity Curiosity Shop, Habit Coffee, and Vorpal Gnome.

The existing structure is pretty nondescript. A well designed 3-4 floor project here would be a big improvement.

Someone on that Reddit thread said it was going to be rentals. Have you seen or heard any confirmation of that, Grant?

28 Bastion Square (historic Provincial courthouse building, former home of Maritime Museum) proposed as arts hub

https://www.cheknews...rts-hub-435830/

“The project is still in the pre-development stage, but the plan is to convert the former Maritime Museum building into a multi-media arts hub with spaces for workshops, studios, exhibits and performances.”

“…the proposal will be brought in front of city council on Thursday for an information update…”

"We're just really excited about the possibilities and opportunities for this space to be reused, it's been sitting empty since 2014, and it's part of our old town, part of our tourism district, and it's a beautiful building,"

“But they've got their work cut out for them. According to a statement from the provincial government's Ministry of Citizen Services, the building needs up to $12 million in repairs and rehabilitation to restore it to base building standards. That doesn't include any modifications or upgrades needed before anyone moves in.”

The DVBA is the proponent, and they have been in discussion with the feds about the new "Canada Cultural Spaces Fund," which has not yet started accepting grant applications. More details about the project are in the staff report, online here: https://pub-victoria...DocumentId=1247

That's the only mention I've seen of a rental development happening on that site. I have no sources other than the Reddit and Facebook conversations, and the former was what caught my attention last night.

I recently heard that Cox plans to develop the small lot at (approx) 1050 Johnson (next to the Mondrian) with a 6 story ~30 unit infill. I have no idea what stage the development is at though.

The proposal is to add 2 additional storeys to the existing commercial building; the plan calls for 7 rental apartments in total and a reduction in commercial space on the first floor (but not its elimination).  I assume that they'll place one apartment on the ground floor and 3 apartments on both the second and third floors.  See https://tender.victo...130113108219653 .

The DP for 1928 Oak Bay Ave was approved on April 12. It will add 7 market rental units above the existing building: 6 1BR and 1 2BR.

There is some activity on the empty lot at 2330 Richmond Road, where Bay Street crosses over into the hospital. A caterpillar seems to have been digging up the lot.
