Does anyone know who the contractor is on this one?

The contractor is Durwest.

So Durwest ponied up a cool $1M to do the work? That doesn't sound right.

Apparently the deal is if any company wants to work on the project, they have to buy a set dollar value of bonds. One trade contractor bought $1 million of bonds so they could work on the project.

I never mentioned Durwest

No, Mike K did.

I assume the inference was that if they were the contractor they must have bought a certain number of bonds.

It will be interesting to see who bids the structure, there is a lot of competition coming in from out of town, although the local formwork contractors are getting pretty hungry too.

They didn't even bother tendering the excavation, they just gave it to RG

They were hauling imaginary dust...

This was the official ground breaking, they were removing topsoil down to rock for blasting, they've now started blasting

As I understand it there will be a "sod turning" for the investors tomorrow. (Friday) The investors will then be treated to lunch at the Victoria Golf Course.

So it turns out they have only received an excavation permit for the project and there is still no word when the concrete formwork will be put out for tender.

CFAX reported today that the Oak Bay beach hotel is going to try and raise another $20M through a bond offering so that they "do not have to deal with banks". I wonder if that is French for the banks choosing not to deal with the Oak Bay Beach Hotel.

The aroma lingers, still no ducks in a row.
Your French is correct where I come from.

IDIOT OF THE DECADE: KEVIN WALKER

Oh, and "Lenders who previously shunned him are now knocking on his door" is BS (sorry I have to be that blunt). He's looking at a financing rate of 15+% so that is why he is trying to raise capital thru these bonds

For all of these factors, he deserves the Idiot of the Decade award.

Don't forget about this project. This one seems to be moving ahead now that Durwest has been kicked out.
