"...its new LimeGlider, a seated electric vehicle without pedals designed for easier cruising."

but a few paragraphs later -

"The new bikes will also feature such a handlebar throttle, giving riders the option to either pedal with electric assist or use the throttle to move."

So does it have pedals or not?

They are talking about more than one bike.

Many different models of electric bikes available now.

Mine has pedal only mode, electric assist mode with 5 levels and electric only with handlebar throttle.

I mostly use pedal only mode, I want the exercise but do use electric assist if I come to a hill and need help. The multiple options may allow me to continue to use it as I continue to age.

They are putting in a cyclist/pedestrian overpass at Tillicum, should help when you have twenty or thirty folks on foot, scooter, bike, e-bike all jockeying to cross the road at the light change.

Where is the rendering?

Tony can I ask you a question.  Do you use your bike for day to day living going shopping etc .

If you do ,do you have any issues with keeping it safely locked up ?

I don’t see many parked outside grocery stores or stores.
I do see them on the roads and goose .

I just got it. I have it locked up in my condo parking area. Since I live downtown I do my groceries on foot with a granny style cart. At the moment I use the ebike for exercise in pedal only mode and  tend to use the bike trails. I travel most times with my partner so one of us stays with the bike if needed to save the bother  of locking them up or we are close bye and can see the bikes if we have a coffee etc.

One of the most valuable parts of an ebike  is the battery it is locked in place so it has to be unlocked to remove it for charging. You could also take the battery off when parked  at home.

Not being ever able to leave your bikes (for fear of theft) seems lame. That’s 100% different than car driving.

Yeah, we had locks thrown in when we bought our bikes, sold them later. We never leave the bikes unattended, and we are usually only on the trails. We did Valet them once.

If your worried about theft  in a particular location or time of day then take the time to lock up your bike like you do with a car..

Lots of cars get vandalized and stolen even though  they are locked.

The ratio of stolen cars to stolen bikes is like 1:100, though.

The City is faced with such a massive bike theft problem that city hall just launched a bike lock borrowing program: https://x.com/cityof...LNt72cvXf0yWpgg

They also ask bike owners to use specific lock types that make it harder for bikes to be stolen.

The CoV should sell bike locks to fund additional policing services.

Cable type locking systems are easy to cut. I have had u type bike locks for over 40 years here and in Toronto and never had a bike stolen.

Several of the better bike lock makers provide the option of cheap theft insurance. It may also be covered on your home insurance. Only worth the effort required if the bike is of some higher value.

The above notice to use u type locks is an important note for bike owners. Too many people do not lock their bikes or only use light cable locks. Considering the cost of some new bikes the extra cost of a u type lock is worth it.

This is not only a Victoria problem.  You can do what my son in law in France does, he rides a bike from home in a small town to the train station leaves it at the bike rack, takes the train, then takes a bike from the city station (which has a card code entry bike storage ) to work (yes 2 bikes) He buys cheap second hand bikes. He also uses bikes that do not have easily removable items like seats and wheels. For fun he has a quality bike with a u type lock in his locked garage.

As more people bike to work more businesses will provide secure bike storage.

I don’t think you’re going to find businesses using expensive interior space for storing bicycles, for free.

Nor should they.

Cheaper than providing car parking spaces for workers.

Ulocks get cut all the time too. Takes very little time. You’ve just been lucky.

Of the ideas here the angle grinder is the only one that I think will consistently work.

No locking device is foolproof and that includes cars. Perhaps I am also lucky that I have not had a car stolen.

Just YouTube it. You can watch videos of kryptonite ulocks getting cut all day. Bolt cutters work fine.

I have,

https://www.kryptoni...bike-locks.html

As I said  no locking device is foolproof. Just like any vehicle someone with the right tools and knowledge can take a bike or car in one minute or less.

One main reason for a quality lock system is to make your means of transportation less attractive to steal compared to others.

It’s not the lock that matters, it’s the bike it’s tethered to. The rule of thumb in Victoria is don’t ride a nice bike if you plan to get off it in public and leave it behind in public.

At least with auto theft, there are criminal repercussions to stealing it. The law is too busy to care about bicycle thieves.
