So you failed at the parking game, if you had to walk a good distance after paying $50.Probababably not.
I've paid upwards of $50 to park for a day in Vancouver, but you can rest assured I had to walk a good distance to get where I was going. That's sort of what life is like in a city.

I never have a problem finding parking in Vancouver, and rarely need to walk very far unless I'm going between to destinations. That said, I'm familiar enough with dt Vancouver to know where some spots are that are never full.

Neither have I, however I never go downtown at 11 - 1 on weekdays, which is when the problem is if I recall correctly.

Single bike, single lock up is the only civilized, sensible solution
I really think having secure/lockable bike hangers within the offices and workplaces themselves or on every (reasonably secure) floor is the best approach. Obviously you'd have all of those familiar issues re: dripping filth everywhere, scuffing walls and elevators, etc. But if we're serious about advocating for more bicycle commuting then we're going to have to live with that stuff and design around it.

It seems to be empty through the morning whenever I've been by, but then fills up once other parking around town becomes unavailable.
But full or empty, if individual bike lockers are even contemplated ... it goes without saying that they have to go somewhere
It's true they have to go somewhere but certainly there are options away from vehicle spaces. Going to think outside the box, or at least move the box.

Victorians arriving in downtown Vancouver, all white-knuckled and sweatin’, see the first parkade and pull in like a bat out of Hell thinking they won the parking jackpot.I never have a problem finding parking in Vancouver, and rarely need to walk very far unless I'm going between to destinations. That said, I'm familiar enough with dt Vancouver to know where some spots are that are never full.
...only to pass a half dozen parkades as they trudge 16 blocks to Red Robin. I’ve seen it a million times. Never fails. But that’s the conditioning of people who expect parking to be scarce because that’s what real city life be like.

Are the people on this site getting older, angrier or both? So many of these threads are just nonsensical. Have you tried taking a cab if you can't seem to secure yourself a parking spot you so desperately need?
Also didn't know real cities have abundant and cheap parking - we must be going to different places.

I don't even know what this latest thing is about. Are we saying we want more parkades? More on-street parking?

The latest vibe of this thread is wanting skyscrapers next to parkades with adjacent on-street parking and living in the suburbs.

An emphatic "yes" to both, but preferably not.

Exactly.
And lower the prices while you're at it. And where's my free valet?

I've only parked down there on weekends when they force me to work.

Ok, this thread is about Issues with bicycles and cyclists in Victoria. This is where we complain about the cyclists, not debate utopian/dystopian parking ideals.
Let's get back on track with this Top Gear gem. A blast from the past you might say....

Some might question the logic of putting Victorias first bike lockers in the Square, a location that's crawling with miscreants and thieves 24/7 ... but then as I said earlier, the first one has to go somewhere!
