I wish they'd stop referring to them as "single-use" bags. What is really single use is every Glad bag I put my garbage in. The plastic grocery bags I use time and time again. Some are so old they came from Thriftys.

i still have some from when there was a Target locally..

You might want to hold onto those as a collector's item.

Unlike our next-door neighbours in Victoria, Oak Bay residents can still enjoy the convenience of plastic shopping bags – and now they can be recycled. ......

How fortunate that Oak Bay has no coastline where those evil "single use" plastic bags could end up in the ocean.  <_<

They just don’t throw their plastic bags in the ocean like I guess Victoria did.

...what about the 2 bags that'll blow out of the bin and land in a tree?

That depends: will that tree be left standing to protect the environment or removed to protect the environment?

We will have to do a study on the impact on removing the two said bags . Send in an arborist for a detailed report on how this might impact the life of the tree . Wait are the bags biodegradable lets get photos before making any rash decisions.

Another bonus for self check-out at grocery stores, they ask how many bags will you need, you enter zero and then use all you want. It's not theft - it's a political statement.

So I'm waiting for the #6 bus yesterday downtown after 5pm, which is hellish at the best of times. The bus comes 20 minutes late, but that’s sort of beside the point.

So I’m waiting, and buddy comes up with two paper bags of groceries. He’s holding his bags, when one of them bursts and two chicken carcasses fall onto the sidewalk. The chicken carcasses had not been wrapped in extra plastic and leaked raw dead chicken juice in the paper bag, which soaked through the bag and caused a critical structural failure. The chicken juice compromised the structural integrity of the paper bag because – duh – paper does not perform well when saturated with moisture.

So now this guy is holding basically two biohazard chicken carcasses in his arms with chicken goo running down his hands and onto the sidewalk. It’s all over his arm, and pants and shoes. Really gross. He barges onto the bus, and I’m like no way am I standing next to raw chicken juice buddy on this crammed POS #6 bus. So I had to wait another 10 minutes.

This plastic bag ban is dumb, caused an unhealthy situation and made me miss my bus.

That'll learn him 2 things:

- under no circumstances must one EVER leave home without at least one or two reusable bags on one's person

- eating chicken is murder

technically carcsss is not an accurate term. for food animals carcsss usually refers to the remains after edible portions have been removed.
