Just a reminder that we have folks of all ages on this forum. There’s no need for that, Dust.
It's the bag ban it's getting to us all no need for a tongue lashing.

My daughter was just at the dollar store downtown and said the lady in front of her, who had a basket full of items, didn't have a bag, didn't want to pay for a bag, so just left the stuff and walked out. The clerk said it's happened a few times and that now she would have to put it all away.

i find it hard to believe it's worth that person's shopping time over a 5-cent bag. it might affect your future shopping decisions but it seems to me it's silly to drop the items this time over the 5 cents. i also feel it might be likely that the dollar store employee is not very good at trying to explain they have no choice but to charge.

Minimum bag price in Victoria is $.15. Will be $.25 July 1st.

Only paper bags are available for the nominal charge. Although it's not an issue on a day like today, when Victoria is experiencing one of its winter monsoons, a bag that will likely fall apart in the rain is not an option for some people, especially if they have to walk any distance exposed to the elements.

I recently had to do an emergency overnight stay for someone I'm an emergency contact for and in the scramble to get my things ready, I couldn't for the life of me find my toiletries bag. Since I'm long all out of plastic grocery bags (despite the eco justice warriors claiming I probably have years worth) I resorted to using a garbage bag. Real classy!

I always at any one time now keep a reserve of about 10 boxes of very carefully selected bags different styles, sizes, colour/transparency and degradability become a bit of a hobby.

Don't worry, Amazon will still sell you plastic bags. https://www.amazon.c...=gateway&sr=8-6
Victoria council just doesn't want you getting them from local merchants.

Come July 1st:
"i find it hard to believe it's worth that person's shopping time over a 25-cent bag. it might affect your future shopping decisions but it seems to me it's silly to drop the items this time over the 25 cents. i also feel it might be likely that the dollar store employee is not very good at trying to explain they have no choice but to charge."
Wait, it's a Dollar Store so the bag should cost... $1.25?
Seems like the US is going state by state - California, Hawaii (via local regulations) and now New York is considering. (https://www.cnn.com/...-ban/index.html)

I think you can get arrested for doing that in public.

Plastic is a huge problem in parts of the world but not in Victoria at least when it comes to bags. Spend a huge amount time walking the beaches and unpopulated islands around Victoria I’m sorry to say I rarely find a bag we have been responsible and don’t deserve this.I think you can get arrested for doing that in public.
Now if you’re recycling one has to assume the recycling stream in BC is working properly, but they are probably the easiest thing to recycle yourself.
Can anyone point me to a Victoria specific plastic bag study ?

95% of plastic in the world's oceans come from third world and emerging countries. Not even a VHF stat.

I don't think that any politician believes that banning plastic bags at the point of sale in Victoria will have any impact on the number of bags showing up in our oceans. Even if we accepted the argument that hoards of people sneak out at night and dump their bags at sea or that somehow they leech from Hartland to the ocean, folks are still going to use plastic bags for garbage. They will just buy them at Costco or online.
This is more about politicians either trying to show that they are doing something or trying to prepare us for the slow withdrawal of rights that their socialist agendas dictate.

How is it we don’t have lids for the recycling bule bins? Driving down the street just now hear crunch crunch crunch recycling all over the road. Picked up a lid last week for my capital regional district we recycle bin at canadian tire fit perfectly. Particularly if you live on the ocean.
The collection contractor, IPI (now Emterra) fought hard against that years ago, complaining that it would add significant time to each stop, thereby drastically impacting their logistics and - most importantly - labour costs. They are notorious skinflints.
