And that water-tower from Toby Jug that went to UVic, that explains what that thing was doing there in the field off Sinclair Rd., east of the oldest student housing, right before you really head downhill.

The farm and the Toby Jug were owned by the same family, but I don't think they moved the water tower. The farm was started in 1911, 17 years before the resort, according to the Saanich website (scroll to bottom of page):

I'll bet there were water towers all over this town before we had a reliable water supply.

I've gone to Matheson a few times this Summer, definitely my favourite accessible lake in Greater Victoria.

^ Metchosin, here. Haven't gone myself, but heard good stuff from others.

Hmm, next summer?

Flickr offers lots of photos. Here are some links:

Yet one more mention of Matheson Lake: It's off the main drag, and usually gets swimming warm sooner than any other lake. Now that I'm reminded, I may have to cycle out there before summer ends.

It's a bit late for lake talk now, I know, but here's a photo I took of Matheson from a rocky outcrop just above the Goose:

The rock near the middle is the best point for swimming, and the island is always fun.

That doesn't look too swimmable.

It is a terrible lake for swimming. Never go there in the summer. Never ever. Leeches everywhere and tonnes of sea snakes.

There were two hockey games going on. Hard to see in that crappy photo and yes all in all about 20+ people on skates.

Geez, I guess I was lucky when I swam there a summer or so back. Now that I know this I won't be doing that again. Gross.

Do you think maybe that was G-man's intent?

This Thetis Lake story sure unfolded slowly.

CHEK had info on Sunday, CFAX has still not reported it, and TC only got on it late this afternoon.

http://www.timescolo...-lake-1.1121730

We re-posted the CHEK story on one of our pages on Sunday at 6pm and it got lots of views.   The page we posted it on only has 2,411 fans, so you can say it went viral to get over 60,000 views, and over 10,000 clicks.

i saw on the CTV facebook feed it said several dozen people got sick, and on the TC story, 17 people.

Made me wonder what exactly does several dozen mean?

Staff are also looking into other possible sources of contamination, like a sick swimmer that passed their illness on to others.

http://www.cfax1070....-at-Thetis-Lake

Someone on the radio this morning suggested that the sick swimmer may have either vomited or defecated in the lake and others might have been swimming in it.

Nice image.

Do they still operate the canteen there?! Could they have all eaten something? (Obviously VIHA would be looking into this as a possibility and would have been reported so I assume the canteen isn't running - yet or at all?)

And yah - nice image eh Sebberry? *shudder*

Sproat Lake voted best lake in B.C.

Sprawling fresh-water 37 square kilometre lake near Port Alberni was victorious over Shuswap Lake in final round of voting.
