It's still a highway there, despite the faux speed limit signs and name change. A 4 lane one way street does not belong in an urban area.

Tell that to New York City.

Storefronts along there would just encourage more jay walking.
Across TCH? Where would the jaywalkers be coming from/going to?

You mean the NYC that is taking out lanes left and right for protected bike lanes and placemaking?

There would be a mid block crosswalk if this wasn't a MoTI dead zone.

Blanchard. It's bad enough with Jay walkers without stores along that side. TCH has stores and I don't feel Uptown has its back to it. Lots of access from that side. Blanchard would of been a bad idea.
Oh ya, gotcha. Ya, I've jaywalked that!

The idea of building a streetscape up there is far fetched.
I don't disagree, but then again the idea of building anything resembling a streetscape along Lougheed highway would also have seemed far fetched even a mere 15 years ago. A little bit goes a long way in these sorts of areas, and Uptown could easily have done just a few small things to make a world of difference.
Other properties around Uptown are going to come up for redevelopment eventually and inevitably. I hope that people and developers try to be mindful of those small things that I'm talking about. Otherwise I think we'll make botching it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

....Uptown could easily have done just a few small things to make a world of difference....
Agreed. Instead Uptown opted for a fortress wall along Blanshard. If this was the only design possible how did they manage this along the TCH:
Is it a perfect design? Of course not. But it sure beats the hell out of this.

Any specific month eyed for Whole Foods?

It should be open in September, but maybe October. At least that's what I was told by crews several months back.

Second only to the McKenzie/TCH interchange, this is a major step in the right direction (no pun intended).
Trans Canada Highway/Carey Road connector to streamline Uptown access
http://victoria.citi...-uptown-access/
Road access to Uptown Shopping Centre is about to get easier with the installation of a connector between the Trans Canada Highway and Carey Road, Citified has learned.
The existing road alignment prohibits northbound drivers from turning onto Carey Road from the highway while access to the busy shopping centre has been limited to a small entranceway steps from the Douglas Street/Trans Canada Highway and Saanich Road intersection. An access lane connecting Uptown’s underground parkade will remain open, albeit its entrance will be realigned. [Full article]
An update on the interchange:

The new Browns Social House space is great. Unfortunately, the food is still mediocre. I wish it was an Earls or Cactus Club.

Milestones or Moxie's would have been a good fit here too. The latter has a history at the Uptown site as well.

True that.
I want to like Brown's, but all of my experiences have been thoroughly meh.
Come to think of it, it's bizarre how few restaurants there are in Saanich.

And even fewer good ones.
