I heard someone took a header off the roof in the last week, I am guessing at the construction site.

Don't headers usually support the roof?

not sure if you are joking or not (hard to tell online).  Yes a header is a structural support above an opening such as a door or pass thru, another name is a lintel.  Taking a header off the roof means you fell head first

Does anyone know if they are updating the facade facing Blanshard and Finlayson? Or will it remain as stucco?

Assume you mean the giant box that is Hudson's Bay? I don't think that is part of the scope of this reno/addition, but I agree it needs to be tidied up!

I remember when they did their last BIG Renovation late 80's early 90's a new section of roof collapsed killing 1 or 2 construction workers.

This was back when they added on a new section and replaced the second clock tower that's now gone (edit)

Agreed. Until very recently you could still make out the name Woodward's in the stucco.  :whyme:

I don't quite recall what was added in that huge reno in the late 80's/early 90's. But it was a significant amount of retail space. Not like the current reno of course, but it added quite a bit.

Yeah, that's a shame. The differences between both sides will be quite jarring.

The bay owns a lot of their real estate, its possible they own this one too and therefore renovate on their own schedule

^^ Welcome to vibrantvictoria Brantastic. I got a kick out of your post about Rock Bay. I agree that Mayfair will have two very different faces soon.

I have heard there will be an Apple Store at the new Mayfair expansion.

Source is a friend that works for Ivanhoe Cambridge, the mall owner

^ I certainly think we are ready for one. The "Restart" reseller gets so busy at times, they use the sidewalk as a waiting room.

I hate to say it, but the Bay should move to Hillside and the Mayfair section should (the Bay) should be redeveloped ((especially when Toys"R'Us goes bellow up). That old Woodward's section is outdated, the ceilings are low, and is a bit dirty feeling.

^I doubt that will happen.  HBC is hemorrhaging cash and has about 21 months worth of assets before their equity becomes negative

I went into HBC last month for their one day sale on luggage.  Something like $100 marked down from $400.  A quick check on my phone confirmed it was still cheaper online and then I walked out without buying and had purchased the luggage online by the time I got to my car.
