Off topic but this is the only picture I've seen of the big blue neon "SALLY'S" sign.

"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

^Was that taken before the sign was rescued from the scrap heap?

Dunno when it was rescued, but that pic was taken April 14 at Budget Steel.

A Channel reported today that a new sign will be installed at the hotel within several weeks.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

I am assuming they will be putting new panels in the vertical revolving sign just like A-Channel did with theirs (I'm also assuming those big vertical spinners are grandfathered in because of their big size? I further assume that anyone proposing a sign like that today would be chased out of town).

Most of the slate rockwork has been removed from the north facade revealing the original badly-damaged glazed terra cotta. Still, you get a good sense of what it must have looked like back in 1912. The Heritage Lounge is closed now too. No word on what's happening to the liquor store.

Past my dive-bar exploration time when I moved here.
My favourite goto dive-bar in my youth was the Chateau Lafayette in Ottawa.
Monkeyman will back me up, since he mentioned he grew up in Ottawa as well.
Sounds like it's cleaned itself up a bit now.
Every city has it; a "Laff" or a "Duggie".
It is truly an end of an era for a city when that bar closes or reincarnates.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with the place.

Or a Cambie.

And yeah, It'd be hard to buy a gun at the Laff now, compared to back in the day. :( Now it's just another bar for the college crowd.

Ever been to Funky Winker Bean's on Hastings? It's a riot.

DVBA newsletter:

TRANSITION
For over a year, hoarding has surrounded the Hotel Douglas as it is transformed into the Hotel Rialto. Today, the wraps came off and tomorrow a very well-stocked Vintage Spirits will open. A portion of the Pandora Avenue ground floor has been restored with great care to the original splendour of 1911, when the Prince George Hotel was built for the then-amazing price of $175,000.

^ Are you sure? I saw some of the very-well stocked spirits being delivered today as I walked by, but the unveiling looked to be a later thing.

They already took most of the hoarding off today.

I love it when they expose a hoard for what it is.

From The Rialto's website:

Crossroads Café

Make time to listen to an old favourite on the old-style jukebox while you take pleasure in the delight of your morning latte and a flaky croissant. Or stop in for a quick bite over lunch, wraps are a sure favourite. Located just off the lobby on Pandora Street, Crossroads Café, serving a full complement of coffees from around the world and an assortment of light fare, is the perfect sojourn to your day in Victoria.

Opening Fall 2007

Hopefully it may help clean up that area.

That is such a depressing description. And wraps? Kill me now.
