^OK, we have officially run this thread into the ground. :P

After three weeks of campaigning I needed some comic relief. But I know I got things off track with 'fake' info. So I wil be totally serious from now on. :(

- Rudyard Kipling made a glowing report of his 1907 visit to Victoria "The Harbour View is worth a very long journey. The colour, the gaiety and the graciousness of the town"

- In the 40s the propaganda film "Commado's Strike at Dawn' was shot at Hall's Boathouse in Brentwood Bay to depict a scene in switzerland. In town were some top actors but names escape me.

- The movie 'Rin Tin Tin' was shot at R.P. Rithet's Broadmead property. Rithet bred horses as a hobby (as well as owning most of Victoria/ Ogden Pt Wharfs aka Rithet's Pier) the first sugar refinery on westcoast and served in the legislature in the late 1800's.)

Also... lest we forget
Emily Carr
Mungo Martin (carved 127 foot Beacon Hill Totem Pole in 1956)

(And all kidding aside, Frank Standford is one of the best in the biz. As well as a heck of nice guy.)

Cheers for now, Sue

Shirley Temple lived at the Empress for a while after hearing rumours of a kidnapping plot back in California. Her goons got the room directly across from hers & kept their door blocked wide open the entire time. :o

I remember my mother telling me she'd seen Shirley Temple. But just her curly head in the back of a car.
Gosh, I hadn't thought about that in years.

Did she only drink non-alcoholic beverages during her stay?

No. She got hammered and punched out a bell hop.

Never got over being a star at age 4.
Maybe never got over being age 4.
She did become a shrill right-wing congresswoman from the SF Bay area.

Ms. Woods?

"What info do you have that contradicts the (true to my knowledge) info that. . . .The Sunkist family has a p/t estate at Landsend."

Their name isn't "Sunkist", it's Bodine, although he was the chairman of Sunkist.

"Barbara Streisand/Kevin Costner has a p/t place on S. Spring."

Bullshit. Living here as long as I have i'm pretty sure I would know if this were true.

"And Burton Cummings lives f/t time in Brentwood Bay."

He actually lives on Saltspring. Or so I have heard repeatedly from people that have met him and/or know him.

"The richest man in Canada (someone named Morgan) lives next door to John Travolta at Landsend (They apparently tried to out-do each other with their home/estate designs)."

The richest man in Canada isn't named Morgan, his name is Thomson, as in David Thomson, son of media mogul Ken Thomson and at a net worth of almost 20 billion dollars he is easily the richest man in Canada.

"A man who owns a large Las Vegas Casino lives on Beach Drive in an estate simply called "Sweetpea".

Firstly, "Sweet Pea" isn't on Beach Drive, it's on Humber Rd. Secondly, the owners of Sweet Pea own the U.S.-based Gallery of History Inc., a public company dealing in rare documents and memorabilia. Or so the Times-Colonist keeps telling us.

Amor de Cosmos, I've heard repeatedly that Diana Krall lives in Nanaimo. It makes sense too since she grew up there. If you scroll down to "Notable Persons", Wikipedia agrees with me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanaimo So what made you think she lives in Tofino?

I also have no proof that John Travolta has a place on the peninsula and even if he did I highly doubt he would try to outdo anyone with it.

Mr. McAvity,

Sweetpea is near Beach Drive so you are correct - I erred in my geography. As for the owners - I guess they are new because at some point I 'believe' it was owned by a Las Vegas casino owner.

Bodine/Sunkist - close - as long as they keep making all things citrus I'll call them either.

I have heard from friends who live on Salt Spring that both Streisand and Costner have separate summer places there. I am not trying to start a rumour that they are a couple. Although I guess it might be worth a few million to the Enquirer.

As for Burton Cummings - I heard Brentwood Bay and just passed that along.

But I can say with confidence that Travolta has a place near Landsend as I have seen it with my own eyes and he lands his jet at Vic Airport. And if the man next door is not the weathiest man in Canada - he is certainly not the poorest.

The lives of others is not perfect science - but since I'm starting to feel like a Hollywood stalker - I will defer to your sources - which differ from mine.

Ms. Woods, i'm glad to see you take responsibility you everything you said.....except for this:

The problem is, you said that John Travolta's next door neighbour is the "richest man in Canada" and he clearly, is not. Had you said it belongs to some "fantastically wealthy person", we would not be having this conversation because that is obviously true, however it also doesn't belong to anyone in the Thomson family which was your original assertion. For some reason, it seems you still seem to want to argue this point with me.

The problem is, that you guys hear something from someone and without any contradictory evidence, believe it. Do you know how many times people have told me that some big yacht in the inner harbour belongs to Bill Gates when I know that Bill Gates doesn't own a yacht. Since I have very little tolerance for bullshit I tend to research things before just repeating things others say but then i'm funny that way.

Well there you go. Someone told you that Bill Gates does not have a yacht - and you believe them - but someone told me that he does (the one with the helipad) and I thought what the hay, makes sense that he would! How do you know for sure that he doesn't?

I also heard that Streisand owns one of them as well.
And Hoffa - but that one sounds fishy.

:)

Sebastian Cabot lived here after he retired from show business. Since he was a friend of one of my neighbours, I saw him many times.

He's a 250 pound English actor (worked with Gielgud). He came to America and worked in TV. Best remembered for working with Brian Keith in Family Affair.

Oddly, he's buried in LA.

You couldn't have missed my point better than you did. My whole point was, that I don't just go by what someone says. I know Bill Gates doesn't own a yacht because I have owned countless yacht magazines and been a member of numerous megayacht websites and forums as well as having researched Bill's life. If Bill Gates owned a big yacht, don't you think it would be pretty well known?

Your Hoffa pun was

I heard an internet rumour that Bill Gates owns quite an impressive yacht.
