I was just watching Global where they introduced the Victoria race with "councillor Rob Reid was defeated by prominent downtown businessman Dean Fortin"!

I have no words (for a change) except my thoughts turn to a quote by someone famous I cannot recall about "people deserving the gov they get".

So I lost today. But it was funny, because CFAX apparently initially reported I won...

Tonight Dean referred to Pam as his "comrade" on tv.

I have no words to express myself (for a change) except my thoughts turn to a quote by someone famous I cannot recall about "people deserving the gov they get".

---- I prefer another quote ----- and I don't mean to be mean , about it...! -----

Why waste your time beating up on your self ...?

I mean there are plenty of under employed professionals waiting in the wings,,,
They can do it cheep-er & faster than you can ... ! (so why deny them the opportunity)

------ Seriously --------

The number of Votes you got ,
means more than your mom & a few of your friends , voted for you ...

heck , even I voted for you...! ( based on your answer's ,,, to all of those endless survey's )

so really ...??????????????????????????

Don't beat up on your self ...!

>>> dispite what all of the un-employed critic's , have to say <<<
they are the one's who need to get a life first <<<
so let's not bother about what they have to say , ok...

beside's , I still , "Remember When" ....! ( perhaps I'm suggesting contrasting then & now )

Victoria is full of history , ( and YOU just became part of it ) 35 council candidates ...?

---- sorry Sue ---- I certainly tried ---- any ways

you got 3 years to talk about it ...!
perhaps Carmila can be a your first guest, if not Mike K ...

ted...

Gotta love Victoria politics, everyone is fed up with the status quo so the voters return basically the same crowd who's done nothing about these big issues for the past few years. I think this is the first time I've ever voted at the municipal level and only had 1 of the 9 people I've voted for actually get elected.

Dean Fortin, Pam Madoff, Sonya Chandler, Lynn Hunter, Phillipe Lucas, John Luton.

The full slate endorsed by the Victoria Labour Council. And not a hair out of place.

Use the pull down menu to select your municipality.

I didn't see school trustee results for Victoria (which is the muni I just checked), but all the numbers for votes for candidates are in.

I think it is telling that not one cuurent community association board member won a seat and yet ca's claim to speak on behalf of their constituents. If that was true they should have been shoe-ins. Just something I noticed.

Ginger Snap (Media Gurll?) -- do you know when the calculations for who represents Victoria on CRD will be released?

That will be decided at a Council meeting I believe. The voting is just a suggestion of who we think should go.

I can not think of a time when the council did not chose the people the public chose for CRD. It is a formality.

thank you! Council members oversee or have responsibility for City departments, don't they?

Also city councillors are appointed to CRD water board and other appts?

Any guesses how that will shake out or is it too early for speculation?

Hmmmm... interesting. Even those muni's that had high voter turnout last time around weren't stellar this year. The only major increase was Sidney (whose Mayor and Council were all aclaimed last time, they only voted for school board, and View Royal who didn't even have an election because everyone was aclaimed in 2005). Saanich was up by about 2%, others were up or down only marginally, and some were down by quite a bit.

And no, Councillors don't 'represent' certain City departments. They do have geographical 'assignments' and other committees, but not City departments (i.e. one councillor doesn't have Parks and Rec in their portfolio, another Engineering, etc).

"I'd rather lose with a high voter turnout than win with a 26% turnout."
