We have only been living in Victoria since July and heard that the Santa Parade is this Saturday. I did a search on the Internet for details but only come up with old info. Can anyone provide me with details such as route, places to park, etc. or even a website?

Thank you!

Isn't that bizarre - I have gone through the usual suspects, Tourism Victoria et al, and can find no mention of this year's Santa Parade. The event is usually sponsored by Island Farms, and it is still listed on their website but with no schedule or info.

I will keep looking but if any of the mods, or search-happy members, can find some info please do yell out here.

It was deemed too politically incorrect so it will now be referred to as the "Winter Equinox Jolly Endomorphic Person Parade".
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

LOL - yes, well done!

I got an email back from Island Farms - the parade is this Saturday and it starts at 5:45 pm, did not say from where!

Sat Nov 22/ 5:30. People packed-I don't drive, so parking is right off my radar, sorry. Travels down Government St (from the legislative building) to the lot across from Capital Iron, where Santa hangs around for a bit.

You might want to check out www.oakbaybia.ca for their xmess festivities which begin Sunday November 30th. Not so much parade-esque, but choirs, apple cider, fiddles and what not. Santa does show up, too.

There is a Parade of Lighted Boats, and a Parade of Lighted Trucks (big uns) on Friday December 5 and Saturday December 6 respectively. Funny, you can engage in 3/4 of these events in the municipality of Oak Bay. The boats can be viewed from Cattle Point @ 7p.m., 7:15 Willows Beach, 7:45 Gyro Beach, Cadboro Bay.

Sidney also has a smashing Santa parade I understand, never been but reports have been glowing.

Esquimalt has a small parade on December 2, Tuesday. Haven't looked for their deets.

There are local sites that cater to families and kids in victoria, just google and presto.

TC: Santa to make early visit at City parade on Saturday

----------- 6 pm ...???????????????????????? ---------------

it sound's like they are trying to compete with the "Parade-Of-Lights" ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

You know , when the local Trucker's , light-up their trucks , and drive down Yate's st....

That is one of the reasons that my sister comes to visit me every dec...!

---- We sit on the curb-side , and watch the DECORATED Truck's , roll past ...! -----

We have a basket full of gifts , to give to their Food-Bank donation's ...

( night & the light's , gives us a buzz ...! ) one that lasts us ,,, all year long ...!

ted...

--- 6-pm is dark , and it interferes with one's ability to CALM-DOWN their kid's ,
and get them ready for bed ...!

Hauling them out on the streets , to watch a parade that will go on until 9-pm ,
makes it hard for a parent to calm the kids down , so they will go to sleep by 10:30- 11pm ...!

----- a day-time Parade ...? -------- like it used to be --------

one could get their kid's home in time for "dinner" ...!
( ie: fill their belly's , and they calm-down 3 hour's later ... ) like around BED - TIME ....!!!!!

ted...

we'll see ...! I don't have kids, but I know a lot of people who do.

;{-

--- saying this "night-time" parade with out Santa on his Sled ....?????

really does suck ...! ( when you think about it )

it's supposed to be for the kid's , and NOT ADULT -
money-making ("Look-Monkey-Look") tourism type schemes ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy traffic nightmare, Batman. Closing the Johnson Street bridge to traffic literally choked the Bay St. Bridge and all roads leading up to it. Traffic was plugged throughout Vic West and, no joke, to get to Hillside from Vic West I had to drive down Craigflower, onto Tillicum through to Gorge and east from there in order to avoid the mess.

Know it all.

Makes you think what might happen when the Olympic Torch comes through town. These events are wonderful, but as the downtown core is so small, with few feeder roads it is incredibly disruptive.

Victoria’s parades will march on, minus a special man.

The death of venerable parade organizer Ron Butlin in September at the age of 89 left the city’s Victoria Day and Christmas parades needing someone new to take them on. Both are run by the Greater Victoria Festival Society and, as society general manager, Butlin was their public face for 21 years.

After being approached about a year ago, Kelly Kurta has emerged as Butlin’s successor, as general manager and point person for the parades. The 45-year-old, who grew up in Victoria and attended Oak Bay High, is in the process of moving back to the city from Vancouver with her family.

She is branch manager for the Vancouver office of Journey Freight International and has extensive involvement with charities such as Ronald McDonald House.
