Thanks VF: actually here is a link to the Royal City Music Project, a compilation of Victoria's music and entertainment past, including many pictures of local bands and "yes" dad and the Club 6 gang: http://www.rcmpsite.com/

Enjoy.

Maybe you watched Club Six on the TV you bought here, on Fort and Blanshard where Monk Office is now:

Wow, this is cool stuff.
I used to go and dance at Club 6 around 69 or 70..........I wonder if any of the old recordings are still around. It would be intersting to watch them

Between my father and me we probably have literally hundreds if not thousands of hours of audio/video from when ho hosted Club 6, including some priceless stuff from when dad took a couple of busloads of "his" kids to see the Beatles at Empire Stadium in 1964.

Not to mention the hundreds of .45 and .78 LP's in his personal collection dating back to his CKDA-CJVI radio days prior to CHEK; I know there are some Elvis .45's dating to pre-1960 that are still in the original packaging that have never been opened.....

Yup, thanks V-F saw that; its common to un-retire the older generation of media personalities for interviews or comment especially on developments in the 'new world' of contemporary media. He was also interviewed on Shaw TV this week, as well as CFAX.

Basically his take is that while he's sympathetic to the recent announcement about CHEK, from a professional-critique standpoint there is no question that the current format was tired and stale. Compare for example the CHEK telecast to the Global news out of Vancouver and it really is a Night and Day scenario. Vancouver is where the money is spent and it shows......

Would love to discuss this with you and your dad on my show 'Remember When' (CFAX - Saturday 1-2pm). Such a great collection!

I emailed Chek6 yesterday asking for copies of the interviews they did with my Grandfather in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Hopefully I get a quick response.

So does this now mean that channel 6 on the TV is open? (assuming I had a few dollars more than I do) Could I buy it and start my own station? I'm sure that there's a market on the island for a local station - not controlled by continentals..
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Yes you can buy it but owning a over the air tv station comes with obligations to provide certain types of programming that can cost much dollars to aquire or produce.
