Lagoon Estates is apparently concerning some people because of "highrises up to 12 stories tall"
Also interesting to see that the PCC is already talking about welcoming a casino bid in the Crystal Gardens, and Charlayne Thorton-Joe stating that the city would consider it if a proposal comes...

I was and am so sad to see that Breeding Zoo gone. What a gift that was to have in Victoria.

Victorians need to drop the comic book level thinking. It's time to seriously analyze what's happening. Standard issue CHEK/TC fluff just isn't doing it anymore.

It was a slow news day so they rehashed months old storeys. If it irks at least one Victorian who knows what's really going on then they've done their job.

Thanks to you guys I'm now keenly aware of "hunting lodge" architecture and the "scared old lady" attitude of the local media.

Chek 6 is a poor example of news. Apart from Stephen Andrew's bits of A-Channel, I tune out most of the local ramblings.

The noon-hour news on CH Vancouver Island is about to end, part of a restructuring the station says will free up resources for other news shows.
CH station manager Rob Eberle said yesterday the last noon news show will air on Feb. 2. No decision has been made on what program will take its place.
Eberle said the end of the show means 12 people will be affected, with five of them losing their jobs. Some bumping will occur and severance packages will be awarded.
Most of the staff affected are technical and support people. But viewers will miss the reporting of Scott Fee and Jenny Matechuk, who worked part time mostly on weekends, but have filled in for vacations and sick leave of senior reporting staff.
Eberle said the audience for the noon news has been weak, and by ending that program the station will put more resources into the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news shows.
Richard Konwick, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, local 815, said word of the end of the noon news show came as a profound shock.
Konwick said television and television news are in flux right now, fighting off competition from the Internet and specialty cable channels.
"Television is volatile right now," he said. "Anything can happen in the industry." Times Colonist staff

Oh, well. I'll take advantage of this empty space by noting that in tonight's news they reported an apartment B&E in Cordova Bay when a man woke up and saw a burglar dressed as a clown in his bedroom.
I think if I woke up to see a clown in my bedroom I would spontaneously and violently evacuate my bowels.

CHEK NEWS To Relaunch in September with a Return to Historic Call Letters
VICTORIA, BC, April 24 /CNW/ - Roy Gardner, General Manager, BC Region
for CanWest MediaWorks announced today that CH Vancouver Island will relaunch
its local news programming under the station's historic call letters, CHEK,
effective September 2007. CHEK News will feature an updated on-air visual
identity and will continue to provide local news and information programming.
"Over 50 years ago, CHEK arrived on the scene as the province's first
private broadcaster and we have been a vital part of Victoria's landscape ever
since," said Gardner. "The return to CHEK News is illustrative of our
connection with and commitment to serving our community with the most in-depth
coverage of Vancouver Island's local issues, stories and events."
Nationally, the network currently known as CH will be rebranded under the
E! banner beginning this fall. The network schedule will continue to feature a
mix of primetime network programming and will include the extensive library of
E! content during daytime, late primetime and weekends. Schedule details will
be available in June 2007.
