"People living in the southern Vancouver Island area love to drink – noticeably more than the provincial and national average."
"the average south Islander, aged 15 and above, consumed 11.1 litres of alcohol per year."

Here's how they processed the raw data for that alcohol study:
https://www.uvic.ca/...ption/index.php
I didn't see anything saying they filter out drinking by tourists. Wouldn't alcohol consumed by visitors artificially inflate those numbers by a huge degree?

yes you'd think so.

In other words, per capita drinking in Ucluelet would be off the charts compared to Cedar which has the same population. Tofino, for example, has three tourists for every permanent resident.

Anything to make the numbers look worse so they can promote their teetotalist agenda...sigh...

Good to see Whistle Buoy hit it hard in their first year.
I’m surprised Sooke Brewing didn’t take any awards home this year.

Nice article in the Growler about V2V Black Hops Brewing, a veteran-owned not-for-profit endeavor that is contract brewing out of Twa Dogs in Saanich. They're only selling kegs at the moment, but you can find their beer at Six Mile and The Churchill. via https://bc.thegrowle...to-philanthropy
Some changes brewing in Langford. Axe & Barrel closes this week, but V2V Black Hops Brewing has announced they have bought a brewery and tasting room in Langford. I can't confirm they've bought the A&B space, but signs point in that direction.

Lindsay said Driftwood considered purchasing the 836 Viewfield property, where it had been leasing about 20,000 square feet of space for its bottling and canning operation, but realized it would be too expensive to buy the lot and move the brewery as well.
“This will be quite a change for us as we have been operating out of three locations — the brewery on Hillside [Avenue], our distribution warehouse and sales office on Ellery Street and the packaging space,” he said.
Lindsay said demolition and renovations are expected to start soon, with hopes that they will move the brewery over and open in spring 2021.
The new space will allow the brewery to play a bit of catch-up with the times. When it started in 2008, there were no tasting rooms attached to breweries, and the Hillside Avenue location never had enough space for them to expand.
“Part of this move will mean having a customer experience like Phillips Brewing has here and like most craft brewers in Vancouver,” Lindsay said.

Lighthouse was founded in 1998 and operates out of Esquimalt, not far from where Phillips first got its start.

I worked for one of his environmental consulting companies about 20 years ago. Did not know until I read his obit that was he involved in Lighthouse! And Racerocks was my favourite beer back then.
