other than sooke is there any beers named for municipalities?

You're kidding, right?

Put these names in front of any of their beers, and the beer is named for the municipality... (just like Sooke)

White Rock Brewing

Whistler Brewing

Nelson Brewing

Pemberton Brewing

Tofino Brewing

Kelowna Brewing

Deep Cove Brewing (technically not a municipality)

Barkerville Brewing

Smithers Brewing

Ucluelet Brewing (New!)

Cumberland Brewing

Fernie Brewing

Lillooet Brewing (under construction)

Mission Springs

This sounds like a trap.

What’s Victoria lager?

Apparently these guys are still holding on. Good for them!

Has anyone tried their beer or been to their place?

Going out that way next week so am going to buy something just for support. But how is there product?

I tried their Sea King IPA in cans (it was reduced a couple of bucks @ The Strath). It foamed like hell when I opened it (same for all 6 cans) and there were lots of bits floating in it. It was barely drinkable, I suspect a low-level infection of some kind. Checking reviews on Untappd and it seems this may have been a bad batch (Nov/Dec had a lot of drinkers pouring this one down the drain). The rest of their beers are reportedly well-liked, but I wasn't inclined to give them another chance.

^^Victoria Lager. And Salt Spring Ale if you want to include the CRD.

He said municipality.

But yeah, VIB fits the bill!

Cumberland, Ucluelet, Tofino, I’m sure there are more.

Whistle Buoy, in Market Square is expanding.  They've taken over the previous bike tour company, adjacent to their inside seating area, and now have the entire east landscape on the lower level!

Super awesome.  Their tent is nicely protected from wind/rain, with propane heaters, and safe distancing with their tables etc.  Damn fine beer as well.

What is described as nanobrewery could be coming to downtown Sidney.

Monday night, council will consider a report recommending the municipality gather views on plans by Beacon Brewing to open what the business describes as a nanobrewery – featuring a tasting room for 45 people – in August 2021.

According to the staff report, the business would be located at 9837 Third St., operating out of the first floor of the mixed-use commercial and residential building currently under construction.

His partner in the creation of the microbrewery business, John Mitchell, died in 2019. Pour a pint for both of them.

This is Sakura's project on the former fire hall site: https://victoria.cit...7-third-street/

That would put two breweries in the area, as Howl Brewing is across from YYJ on Mills Road.

I thought this guy was the father of microbrewing. Multiple fathers?

Appleton and Mitchell were a pair, and started at least three breweries together (including Spinnakers!). Here's a writeup: https://bcaletrail.c...frank-appleton/

Sad news and a huge legacy. Alongside all the influence in BC, he also consulted to set up Deschutes brewpub down in Bend and supplied them with the recipe for their now flagship Black Butte Porter.

brewery/microbrewery is defined by annual volume i suppose for tax purposes. there's no real definition of nanobrewery, it's purely subjective & just means very small microbrewery.

ps- sad to read about frank appleton, he was definitely in the craft brewing game before it was cool. i think they may have even had trouble finding brewing gear because no manufacturers made anything on the right scale for what they were brewing at the time, which is why they repurposed old dairy gear.

maybe we could have beer blends.  the tap pours different levels of each ingredient, or adds enhancer/flavour to a base.  like a paint colour machine.  thousands of varieties available at the same pub.

already done with wild ales since the beginning of time: https://brewingindus...ience-of-sours/

breweries have also adapted the solera method to beer, usually used for sherry (specifically solera, unsurprisingly): https://www.hopcultu...brewing-method/
