i think that the lawsuit will be settled in cowichan. taxpayers will not stand for those increased tax rates. lots of maneuvering going on there.

^ For the record I don't think that GAIN has filed suit against Cowichan, they just threatened to do it. I am sure that it will get resolved now that Cowichan has told them to "being it on" and their customers will start voicing their concerns.

car manufacturers are making deals.
ford for example is offering to pay 3 payments and defer 3 on new purchases (and/or leases?). so you don't pay for 6 months.

It’s downright criminal to consider a $55k car in Canada as a “luxury” vehicle, and tax the heck out of it. What sort of cruel joke is that?

In Canada for many people a can of soup or a steak is a luxury so yeah a 55k vehicle is a luxury.

People who used to rely on public transit and ride-sharing, the ones who in the past said they don't want or need their own car, are reaching an automotive epiphany: They now see the value—and safety—of having their own vehicle. It only took a pandemic.

Are Car Sales About to Bounce Back In a Big Way? Consumers who never wanted a car may be getting into the market, and other good signs.

That's wishful thinking. Thousands die and many more are seriously injured every year from car accidents. From a safety perspective cars are a pretty awful way to get around so I don't think a meaningful amount of people will suddenly become car owners because they don't want to catch the flu. It's not ebola.
For people who used to take transit but don't expect to have that choice in the future, it's a lot more likely they'll switch to a bicycle if they're close enough or to a motorbike otherwise. Car ownership is positively correlated with income levels, and let's just say income levels aren't going to hold up.

Oh I dunno. We’ve seen the trend by urbanites who can afford a car, and who already have a driver’s license, forego car ownership due to their walkable communities and access to public transit for jaunts further afield.
But public transit is no longer in vogue like it was three months ago. Now it’s a liability. Taxis and car sharing are perceived much in the same way.

True, I'd imagine a lot of people who live in the near-downtown upper-scale areas like James Bay and the Songhees could easily switch to a car, at least temporarily. Don't think that will be a long-term trend, though.

larger metro areas folks are looking at leaving the cores for the 'burbs which implies increased personal auto ownership

We may not see a mass exodus here as Victoria doesnt really have the density of bigger cities but we do see more young families opt for the westshore than the core.

I'm sure they will have to revise this projection in light of Covid

Was at the Porsche Dealer today and was told that every single new 911, GTS 4.0, GT4 & Spyder in Canada are sold out to mid 2021.
If you were in the market for a new Porsche you're out of luck unless you want a Macan or Cayenne or base 718. They have never seen it this way where every allocation across Canada is sold out for a year at least.

Thanks for the heads-up. Anyone who has business in the executive wing at VV headquarters should brace themselves for heartbreaking tales of woe.

Is that due to increased demand, or because Porsche is no longer taking new orders? Musicians are running into this specific problem; existing stock for new models is being sold out but manufacturers are either decreasing production or shutting down lines altogether, inducing scarcity.
