I’m hearing it’s a Safeway. But don’t quote me on that just yet. It’s a shame that Safeway deal fell through where Urban Grocer opened.

The Mazda dealership should be moving soon, perhaps they are moving to the Volvo spot.

Vancouver Island-based GAIN Group will represent the brand in Western Canada with Polestar Vancouver, one of three Polestar Spaces opening initially in Canada. The other two are in Toronto and Montreal.

Victoria and Waterloo, Ont. will have satellite service centres.

Unlike traditional drive-in automotive lots, the boutique outlets will be in the heart of town and geared for walk-in traffic.

“We are appealing to a different consumer,” said Peter Trzewik, head of the GAIN Group of Vancouver Island. “The digital-first retail model means we will go to where the consumer lives rather than the other way around. Consumers can choose, arrange for a test drive, arrange for financing, lease, pay and take delivery of their vehicle with little to no physical contact.”

Victoria, meanwhile, will get a pop-up store and Polestar servicing at Volvo Cars Victoria at Cook and Yates streets. “This is an important electric-car market,” said Trzewik.

Because the business model does not centre on a geographical location, as with a traditional new-vehicle franchise, the GAIN Group expects to take orders throughout Western Canada, with a handful of pre-sales already happening for eager buyers in Yukon and Alberta.

The goal is to reach sales of 600 vehicles by the end of the second year, said Trzewik, adding the next location will be based on where the company sees the most sales.

The polestar 1, I think, is stunning.

It’s like a mix of an Audi, a Mas, and a Lexus.

10 years ago today Victoria learned they were about to get the new Fiats.

Hard to believe it's been a decade. What I remember most about this story was the shocked look on the face of the Ensign Chrysler employees when I told them they were shut out of the Fiat franchise, they were all going to Wille.

Very interesting merger today with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot parent Groupe PSA voting overwhelmingly to merge, creating the world’s fourth-largest automaker.

That links Chrysler with famous Euro brands like Vauxhall, Citroen and Peugeot.

In the 1980s you could buy a new Peugeot from Pacific Mazda at Blanshard and Johnson.

Interestingly, in this 1979 ad Peugeot says they had just become the world's third largest automotive company.

Famous, lol! That's a great way to put it.

It's American junk merging with Euro junk. I suspect the outcome will be a whole lotta junk.

Inside every Peugeot is a miracle of engineering.

Do yourself a favour and watch that.

I love French car brands--it's always a surprise to me to see a new version of a historic brand, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen. Kind of like seeing a brand new Studebaker or De Soto, kind of an alternate universe time warp.

Mind you, I love to look at them, would not buy one.

I had a Citroen BX and loved it. I'd have another one anyday.
