I think it's quite common for the dealerships to let folks take the vehicle.  99% of the time it works out and stops the customer from going shopping elsewhere.

Judges sure can be creative when they feel like it.

I do wonder if the judge would’ve found the contract unconscionable had the young woman not been native.

Yeah hard to see where the dealership was negligent unless it was in moving the license plate to the newer vehicle if title hadn't been transferred. Even then, how could they foresee that the prospective owner would then loan the car to a drunk friend?

I was a 3rd party to a lawsuit a few years back. The plaintiff, although sympathetic, had zero merit to her claim. I remember chatting with the defendants lawyer and suggesting that they should just make a motion to have this kicked and save everyone the time and effort. In response the lawyer stated that not only would the motion not be successful, there was a 50/50 chance that his client would lose the case. In the end they settled after doing the math.

The reality is that there are judges who like to make law from the bench. Perhaps the thought is that the case will get settled anyways and they are just applying some pressure to get something for the plaintiff, or perhaps they have been doing this long enough that they don't care if it gets overturned on appeal.

While August’s new-vehicle sales experienced a modest year-over-year increase south of the border, that glimmer of recovery has yet to be seen here in Canada.

Estimated Canadian sales of 126,534 units in August were down 13.9% from the same month last year, as estimated by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC). It was the lowest August sales number since 1999, According to Andrew King, Managing Partner of DAC.

Nothing surprising there. With all the supply issues, prices are significantly higher. Now's not the time to purchase a vehicle unless you desperately need one.

With demand for new cars outstripping supply across North America, many buyers are finding, to their surprise and dismay, the price they were quoted might not be the final price they’re asked to pay.

It could be hundreds, or even a few thousand dollars, more than the advertised price.

Just ask Lisa Smedman, who’s been frustrated in her search for a no-frills economy car she can afford.

“This nice car salesperson was very apologetic, he said, ‘Yeah, there’s a secondary $2,000 fee now that we have to put on all the cars,’” Smedman said.

I have heard it's possible Honda for the other. If it is that would be huge for the Denny's block owned by Patterson

Buyers reminded dealerships aren't closing as Volvo launches direct sales

Volvo Car UK is informing consumers of its switch to direct-to-consumer sales in June with a reminder that this doesn't mean Volvo dealerships are closing down.

A statement released today highlighted Volvo's recent developments, including launching online new car sales, its Care By Volvo subscription offer, and online OEM-approved used car sales, and added: "In June this year we’ll be taking the next important step as the UK becomes our first 100% direct market when we close the UK wholesale channel.

"It is important to note that we are not closing the Volvo Cars retailers. They continue to be an important part of a seamless online and physical consumer experience."

Partners in its franchised network are shifting to agency model contracts which position them as a service provider for Volvo, which will be the retailer.

Volvo said its new approach to getting a Volvo car is designed around flexibility for the consumer, as there is a variety of funding options and regardless of whether someone visits a Volvo dealership, enters Volvo's 'urban studio' in London's Brent Cross shopping centre, use its website or the Volvo Cars app, and "everyone should get the same outstanding and meaningful experience".

ICBC has released its insurance policy data for 2022: https://public.table...PoliciesinForce

City of Victoria residents have some 'splaining to do. Unlike with its peers (Esq, Oak Bay and Saanich), Victoria's automobile usage rose above 2019 in 2022, with a 0.5% increase in active policies between 2019 and 2022. In 2021 we saw a peak everywhere due to the pandemic, this was exhibited province-wide, Island-wide, etc. Then in 2022, the urban areas of the province saw a reduction in insured vehicles compared to 2021.

But in the core, only Victoria maintained its grip on the car. The other three munis had fewer cars actively insured in 2022 than in 2019.

How do we square that?

You are talking about 460 more vehicles in 2022 than 2019? That needs an explanation? The island increased by 3.8% in that time. 0.5% isn't much... Sooke increased by 9.9% (780 cars)...
