This was rumoured 2 days ago but now official - Canwest is putting CHEK TV up for auction. In other words, no potential buyer has been found in the past 2 months, and they are desperate to drop some assets.

If goes down to about 50 or 100 bucks, I am thinking VVTV. :D

5 years ago it had some value. I'm not so sure it has much today. Funny how A Channel struggled until Hudson Mack came onboard, then CH went down.

Depraved minds think alike!!! Also completely agree with VHF, CHEK has really no brand, or personality value, left - I sincerely doubt a buyer is going to come out as a 'white knight', and as it cannot be sold to any foreign national, or company, Canwest may just let it go.

These are the stations they are trying to sell...

Canwest Global Communications Corp. (TSX:CGS) says it is exploring the sale of five conventional television stations across Canada, just days after bankers pulled back the debt-laden company's borrowing power.
While Canwest said a possible sale of the stations could help boost its sunken stock price, analysts say it's unlikely the company will find a buyer, especially in the current recessionary environment.
The stations on the block are part of Canwest's E! network and include CJNT-TV in Montreal, CHCH-TV in Hamilton, CHCA-TV in Red Deer, Alta. CHBC-TV in Kelowna and CHEK-TV in Victoria.

What!? Great shows like Kimora - Life in the Fab Lane, The Soup and Snoop Dogg's Father Hood never found an audience? I'm shocked.

Haha Beautiful! Phil and I will have a pint before each debate just to liven things up.
I think VHF might have to help me co-host that play by play though, just so I can ask him to clarify some of the technicalities.
Caramia: "So that little round thingy.."
VHF: "Puck"
Caramia: yes, well, it is just is speeding towards the net..."

Just to help feed to rumour mill about Canwest - it appears the credit line holders for the company may force them to divest of not only the local TV stations (like CHEK) but also the papers - and then concentrate on the main TV brands, Global and HGTV. E! is up for sale, on the same terms as CHEK (and the others) - all given 2 months to find a buyer (remember - not foreign), or close.

Canwest stock stayed flat and was trending down until the 'talk' about divesting the papers hit the traders about 1230 EST - the stock then gained $.48. That, to me, is the indication the company needed to divert from regional TV and print altogether. They may (just may) keep The National.

The fact is, Canwest is far too heavily overdrawn on its capital loans and operational credit lines - it needs a reported 30% increase in advertising revenue just to keep local print viable, and with the general economic downturn that is a pipedream. TC and CHEK had a sharing agreement to provide video/text reporting, and as CHEK is going down the TC will not have access to local news video clips (unless it wants to buy from A-Channel) - that decreases its market potential and value.

My bet - unless Canwest gets some sort of Government bailout, the TC may need to find a buyer.
