Foi Epi signage going up...

From the way they're laying it out I suspect it will be a neon sign - which would look very cool against the brick.

The guy in the bucket is using a multi-point safety harness, but the guy on the ladder isn't...

Hmmm..

You are allowed to go up to the top of a 40-foot ladder with no harness.

Fol Epi is open today. Just had a great Americano and sandwich.

It looked fairly busy when I walked past around 12:15, even though Yates Street was almost people-free (as was much of downtown).

For all of those skeptics out there (myself included) re: purpose-built mid-block connectors, this one and the lane behind the Hudson show us that they can work. I'm probably stating the obvious but a commercial unit on at least one end that extends well into (and has windows facing onto) the passage seems to be a key ingredient.

Two crack members of the VV moderating team found a very extensive algae bloom at the fountain yesterday.  It did not look too good.

A physio therapy clinic is opening in the last remaining retail space at the Era. They'll be to the left of the building entrance.

Know it all.

That section of Yates is all boring so its par for the course..

the peak of Yates Street appeal and with its covered sidewalks and great stores disappeared in the 1980s The 70s and 80 that area was lively.

Fort Street has now taken over.

Yates/Douglas was considered the centre of downtown...now it derelict in comparison to its former glory

Fort/Douglas is now the busy hub of downtown and 800blk Fort is alive and kicking

Fort and Douglas is also the transit centre. So I am sure that helped.

It is a boring stretch. But it has extra-wide sidewalks, plenty of walk-by, lots of workers in the area. So whythehell aren't there sidewalk cafes? Seems made to order.
They would bring life and reduce the boring factor. Not to mention revenue for the city.
Other cities do it, why not Victoria? Or am I missing something here?

Well I think Agrius / Fol Eli has an outdoor seating section, as does Mirage (across the street).

It would be interesting to compare vehicle traffic counts in the 700 blocks of Fort and Yates. Fort "seems" less busy and the storefronts there tend to be smaller, so this block would theoretically more inviting for sidewalk cafes (though there generally aren't any, perhaps due to the sidewalk being too narrow).

I was looking at the Era today, and about the small heratage store front that was saved and worked into the design ot the Era, I thought, I really like that, it worked incredibly well. Just my opinion ...
