God, I hated those endorsements when I ran. Implying that I probably didn't "support working families" simply because I didn't apply to be on their list. Bah.

The Victoria NDP is running for council again, all of it. As in previous elections they are changing their name for the election to the Victoria Labour Council.

I think you have the tail and the dog mixed up here.

The Victoria Labour Council is an association of union workers. This council is affiliated with the BC Federation of Labour which in turn is the provincial voice of the Canadian Labour Congress.

These groups support political parties and endorse candidates that they feel will further their agenda. Not the other way around.

I think you will find that the goals may be similar but the effort flows in a different direction than you suggest.

Here is a little peek at which way the wheelbarrow dumps at the provincial level. This was reported by the Tyee a few years ago.

So 4 out of 7 of their endorsements won office in 2014 in Victoria.

Of the incumbents they endorsed 3 out of 4 won and of the "challengers" they endorsed one out of three won.

Based on this small sample it is hard to know how much their endorsement helped vs just good old incumbent advantage.

It does seem like their endorsement was enough to put all three "challengers" into very competitive positions (Kaye and Luton weren't far off winning).

Might it not be important to consider the substantial financial support as well?

I sure wish they would make those widely publicized, you would know who not to vote for.

There was 9 endorsements not 7, 8 for council 1 for mayor. The endorsement list is critical.

Can you tell me who was endorsed last time. The TC article said it was seven in Victoria (Issitt, Loveday, Fortin, Kaye, Luton, Madoff, Alto).  Who else was endorsed?

It's easy to know who not to vote for: if there is an "I" beside their name select someone else on the ballot.

Apparently this is what a $60K a year artist in residence gets you these days.

Last night on the CFAX news they said a candidate had emerged for mayor of Victoria. Sorry, I can't recall the name, but one of his goals was a moratorium on new bike lanes. He has my vote.

Ed Pullman is already mad and exhibiting his usual histrionics, so he must be good.

Yeah that's not Ed mad, that's Ed sarcastic.  We are shaking in our boots at Changes the Clown threatening to rip out bike lanes.

To be clear that's me being sarcastic, not mad.  Yes, that's my usual histrionics.
